nano flex, Product talk, water repellent technology -

As with so many of our products, it began with a problem, or at least the attempt to identify a solution to one. In this case, the questions revolved around how to dress in unpredictable weather, and how to avoid the unpleasantness of that clammy, wet feeling of cycling in the rain. Yes, we now have the option to escape to a virtual reality tucked dryly away in our caves of pain, but what do you do if, you know, you want to go ride your bike outside? When it might rain or – wait for it – it’s already raining? Which brings us back to the original question, put bluntly: how can we make riding in the cold and rain not suck?     Let’s rewind the tape ten years, to a particularly nasty November in 2009, when we sat down with Roger Hammond and Carlos Sastre of the Cervélo Test Team. Roger and Carlos lived in Belgium and the high mountains of Spain, respectively, and both spent considerable amounts of time in cold and wet conditions. Pros in general, although these two in particular, were the perfect cycling product testing Guinea pigs!     After a couple years ...

Blackout Collection, Castelli Gabba, Product talk -

The story is not necessarily new, but worth retelling, as it is an origin story of sorts. But the rising of this tale begins not from ashes but from driving snow and freezing conditions; conditions epic enough that they caused the shortening of the 104th edition of Milan-San Remo in 2013. Conditions nasty enough where riders were bussed around the Passo del Turchino and Le Manie because the roads were unrideable with snow and ice.   But lest we get ahead of ourselves, we must go back even further to August of 2009, where a handful of riders from the Cervélo Test Team met after the Brexia Tour with the sole purpose of trying to figure out a better solution to the rain jackets available.   You’ve probably all seen photos, and if you were a cyclist at the time most likely still cringe at the thought of the ill-fitting, plastic, and completely waterproof jackets worn at the time. The biggest issue was that they were designed to be waterproof, so while they did a fantastic job of keeping water out, they were abysmal when it came to breathability.   Gabriel Rasch, one of the Cervélo riders present at the ...

castelli women, Racing, Video, Women -

The biggest women’s race in North America wrapped up in Denver this last week, and the Point S pro women were there to experience this important step forward for women’s cycling. We had the opportunity to sit down with Isabella Bertold and Pip Sutton, who just returned from their four days of racing at the event, and here’s what they had to say.     Q: What excited you most about racing Colorado this year? Isabella: For the first time in my bike racing career we were the main attraction! This was a big step for women’s cycling and I was excited to be a part of it. The race attracted a top tier field of riders, and it was the hardest race I’ve ever done. Pip: I was excited to race with some of the world’s best female racers, and supporting my team and helping our team members achieve the best possible results was something I was super happy to be a part of.     Q: What does the Point S hashtag #HRDWMN mean to you? Isabella: I LOVE this hashtag – it could not be more accurate! There is nothing easy about this sport. The cliché saying that it ...
