Andreas Giglmayr, Andreas Raelert, European Championship, Germany, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Knossalla, Raelert Brothers, Triathlon, Wiesbaden -

This Sunday Wiesbaden will host the Ironman 70.3 European Championship for the 9th time. The race offers a challenging, yet scenic course in southwest Germany. Lake “Raunheimer Waldsee” is the venue for the 1,9 k swim. A challenging 90 k bike loop will lead the athletes into a series of hilly climbs with steep descents. The concluding half marathon, splitted into a four-loop course, takes athletes through downtown Wiesbaden and has a drawn-out descent that lends itself to a spectacular, spectator-filled finish. After winning Müritz Triathlon two weeks ago, Andreas is well prepared to compete in a strong field of almost 70 professional male athletes. After his DNF and a solid block of training Andreas Giglmayr is keen on starting into a successful second half of the season in Wiesbaden. Local hero Matthias Knossalla probably knows the course better than any other actor. He has had a difficult summer when he was only able to swim for six weeks after he crashed out of Ironman 70.3 Mallorca in May. Just in time and as an additional motivation, he got his confirmation for Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See later this month. All Castelli pros will benefit from the performance ...

While most of the Castelli sponsored triathletes already had started their season, the 2015 season really gets underway in the next two weeks. This Saturday, the elite will meet at the Ironman 70.3 North American Championship in St. George, Utah. The Castelli scorpion will be represented by the fastest Ironman couple Mirinda Carfrae / Timothy O’Donnell and Andreas Realert. The latter will make his debut race of the 2015 season. “I’m really looking forward to this race, but the tension is also very high. It is certainly a very tough race for a kick-off competition. The climatic conditions and the outstanding pro field will be real challenges.” says Andreas Raelert Ironman 70.3 St. George has not only been a very fast race in the past, as a North American Pro Championship event it stands for an extremely strong list of athletes. “The line-up is sensational,” says Andreas Raelert. The best-known names in the startlist will be Sebastian Kienle, Ben Hoffman, Brent McMahon, Tim Reed, Leon Griffin, Luke McKenzie, Paul Matthews, Tyler Butterfield and Tim Don. For the Rostockian, this race means a very important test besides the qualifying points for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii which he wants to collect in Utah. Two weeks after ...

It has almost been six months since my last race. During that period, many things changed for me. I switched my race bike and riding the new Felt IA for this season. It took some time to get used to it but right now, I’m more than happy with my new weapon. 2015 started with a big training camp on Gran Canary in January. I wanted to build a solid base for my first races this year, Challenge Dubai & Ironman 70.3 Philippines. As I always lose time in the water, I decided to set my focus on the swim for the first camp. After that camp, I felt well prepared for two half-distance races within nine days. My first priority race was Ironman 70.3 Philippines, because I try to qualify for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See later this year. One week before, I planned to compete in Challenge Dubai, the opener of the new “Triple Crown Series”. The days prior to the race went pretty well and I was keen on showing my improvements I achieved over the winter. Dubai Race day – change of plans: All I could do on race morning was pick up my ...

Past weekend has been high-flying for lots of Castelli triathletes. Scotsman Fraser Cartmell finished second at Ironman Wales (Pembrokeshire), 4 minutes behind winner Matt Trautman (RSA). Laura and Greg Bennett did and olympic distance race and both placed 3rd at Beijing International Triathlon. Without no doubt, the most notably results were achieved at the first edition of Ironman 70.3 Rügen. Michael Raelert triumphed ahead of Castelli brand mate Matthias Knossalla and Edo van der Meer from the Netherlands. Talking about Rügen, conditions were rough on race day and organizers had to cancel the swim due to heavy rain, storm and harsh waves at the Baltic Sea Coast in Binz. So the Ironman 70.3 was transformed into a duathlon event. Instead of the 1.9 km long swim a 5-kilometer run was the prelude. “It’s always a pity, when it is impossible to make the entire route, but under these conditions, a swim would not have been a good idea. It was a very challenging race for all competitors. Today, everyone has felt how hard the conditions have been,” said Michael Raelert. Contrary to Michael Raelert, the podium spot of Matthias Knossalla was a bit surprising, especially for Matthias himself. The Limburgian ...

Knossalla, Matthias, News, tirathlon, Triathlon -

Last time you read my athletes diary I was on the beautiful island of Mallorca preparing for my first races in May. After hours and hours of endurance training I wanted to do some race-specific training sessions after I returned to Germany. Unfortunately my training looked like this: What had happened? Some years ago I dislocated my shoulder playing basketball. Some weeks later I had no more pain and started swimming again. Everything was fine for almost five years. Some months ago I noticed a sharp pain in my shoulder joint. I tried everything to get back to full strength but the pain was always there. My doc and I had several discussions what to do now but at the end surgery was the only possibility to get healthy again. After my training camp at Mallorca we decided to do surgery now. It was almost May and the season had started already. After a successful surgery my physiotherapist Erich and I lost no time to start the rehab training. We trained six days a week and always stared at 6:30 AM. Ouch… The first timetable to return to Duathlon races was set to 10 weeks. But all the hard work with ...
