Sonia, you are without a doubt the person who has more experience with the Castelli company than anyone else. From the sewing department at an external vendor you have moved on to become the main interface today between Steve, the designer and the pattern office. But first things first: describe your job as best you can. Steve is kind of the technical mind behind our product. He gathers the information and the needs of the pro riders. Maria Teresa, the designer, designs the collection to include the items Steve requests. I come right after, and I have to work closely with them to define the collection. I have to follow the product from this phase until it’s finished. Based on the technical requirements specified by Steve and the aesthetics suggested by the designer, I have to choose the right materials and the appropriate components, from the reflective piping to the best zipper to the label, identifying all the possible solutions, taking into account functionality, style and the cost of the finished product. I am essentially the hub between design, pattern making and research. I have a background in pattern making, cutting and sewing; I started working at the machine. I ...

Ironman Hawaii – The annual showdown

This saturday over 2,000 athletes will tackle the 226k distance that presents the ultimate test of body, mind and spirit to earn the title of IRONMAN. At 6:25am the top 50 male pros in the Kona Point Ranking will start the race, followed by the top 35 female pros only five minutes later. The pack of age group athletes will follow at 6:55 (men) and 7:10 (women). Triple Ironman World Champion and defending champion Marinda Carfrae leads a strong team of Castelli pro athletes. In the men race Frederik Van Lierde (2013 Kona champion), Marino Vanhoenacker, Timothy O’Donnell, Andreas Raelert and Fraser Cartmell will fight for a top position. Last but not least paralympic athlete Alex Zanardi will do his best to defend last year’s title. Alex Zanardi and Vittorio Podestà came to the Castelli stand at the Expobici, the biggest bike show of Italy, in Padua. They came to make a small conference in front of the people that came to the stand and to sign some autograph, finishing the postcards they had in few minutes. Zanardi had to talk about Kona, because he will participate to the World IronMan championship. Everybody knows about the curiosity and the tenacity of Alex, he always wants to try new things in sport and this will be his ultimate adventure…for now. When he told to his coach Francesco Chiappero that he wanted to do it, he could not believe it; but when he saw Alex on Gavia and Pordoi, he told him he could do it. Zanardi admits to be very lucky. He always say that he can do what he does because he has the possibility and doing a Ironman is an opportunity that many good athletes dream for all their life, and he can take part to this challange.
