From the classic Austrian ski resort Sölden, one of the toughest cycling races for amateurs starts and ends. We went there together with 4000 other avid cyclists to take on the four mountain passes in South Tyrol. I lie in the bathtub in the hotel room. The water is so hot that you have to walk in really slowly, warming my wounded body after the race. My memory of the last climb, the one from the Italian side up towards Timmelsjoch is blurred. I remember how the sweat runs down from my forehead, the bike computer no longer showing double digits and that my legs are close to cramping and my stomach aches. The beautiful views I can see from the images now in hindsight, I have only fragmented memories of. But maybe we should take it from the beginning. 4000 avid cyclists It is the first Sunday in September and we are in the classic Austrian ski resort Sölden. It is still dark when we cycle from the hotel to the start where 4000 avid cyclists have gathered. The air is fresh, the speaker encourages the participants to wave their arms in the air and tries to keep the ...

The 20th edition of Ironman Austria (Klagenfurt) was held in perfect long distance weather, not too hot and a light breeze. Starting the race it was clear that Pewag Racing Team athletes were willing to take an offensive approach. Two of them – Beatrice Weiß and Lukasz Wojt – lead the race for some time. The latter almost until the end of the bike leg and finally finished 6th overall. Russian Ivan Tutukin was catching up (fastest marathon of the day, 2:40h) and almost caught winner Michael Weiss. Enjoy our race day gallery by Edoardo Civiero.

This year’s IRONMAN Austria in Klagenfurt was a total triumph for Castelli athletes, who took both the women’s and men’s titles at Lake Wörthersee. Mirinda Carfrae (AUS) looked strong right from the start and took charge halfway through the bike leg. On the bike the triple IRONMAN world champion gained an advantage from the aerodynamically optimized T1:Stealth W Top and clocked an incredible 4:47:39 bike split. With a concluding marathon of 2:49:06 (new PB), she set a new women’s race record to finish in 8:41:17. While Carfrae was racing in Austria for the first time, Marino Vanhoenacker was on the starting line for the 8th time. In the days prior to the race the Belgian had left no doubt that he would be the man to beat. However, his rivals put in everything they had and showed that they would not go down without a fight. It was not until KM 150 on the bike that he was able to distance his competitors, but he entered T2 with a race-best 4:19:57 bike split and a lead of 4:11. With a 2:47:13 run, Vanhoenacker was able to continue his impressive winning streak at IRONMAN Austria, taking his 8th Klagenfurt title in 8:04:18 The Belgian pewag racing team athlete debuted a ...
