When you have been riding for a while, the routine of getting dressed is part of the metronomic rhythm of your experience. First, the chamois, the jersey, cap, helmet, gloves, shoes…and now the neck gaitor. Our newest consideration as we don our kit to ride into the hills, onto the gravel, into our community, and out on the open road. The Gaitor: our protective attempt against the spread of CoVid-19, which has been going on for 3 months. It has been terrifying and lonely… and also considered the uniquely momentous “Great Pause” of our lifetime. A time to reconsider our lives, families, health and livelihoods. Some of us were asked not to leave our houses for weeks and months, others lost friends and family members. But throughout all of this uncertainty we have been given the opportunity to focus on the things that are clearly the most important in our lives. To determine the people and the things which truly are our sanity makers, the places and environments that act as our sanctuaries.     Isn’t that the way life is sometimes? You don’t know what you have until it is lost or taken from you. Enter the bicycle… I ...

Kristin Weber started her cycling career in the early 2000’s with the Schwinn Homegrown Luna Chix Mountain Bike teams. A 2-time US National Cyclocross Champion and 3-time medalist at Masters Cyclocross World Championships, Kristin loves to evangelize all things ‘cross and gravel and is especially excited to get more women involved in the sport.   There is something about the cold, hibernal months that always pulls me into a state of reflection. December closed out the past year with a stamp on its events in a permanent and finite way, and last year was one of the hardest years of my life.    2019 was the year I lost Andy, my best guy friend, the father to three sons and lover to one beautiful woman. Andy died of a massive heart attack while racing in a duo mountain bike race with his 12-year old son in Steamboat, Colorado. If that doesn’t take your breath away, nothing will.     The ensuing months were a journey of grief that took me aback by their fervent and powerful hold. People lose their loved ones every day, but until it happens to you, you can’t quite know or understand what your version ...

The biggest women’s race in North America wrapped up in Denver this last week, and the Point S pro women were there to experience this important step forward for women’s cycling. We had the opportunity to sit down with Isabella Bertold and Pip Sutton, who just returned from their four days of racing at the event, and here’s what they had to say.     Q: What excited you most about racing Colorado this year? Isabella: For the first time in my bike racing career we were the main attraction! This was a big step for women’s cycling and I was excited to be a part of it. The race attracted a top tier field of riders, and it was the hardest race I’ve ever done. Pip: I was excited to race with some of the world’s best female racers, and supporting my team and helping our team members achieve the best possible results was something I was super happy to be a part of.     Q: What does the Point S hashtag #HRDWMN mean to you? Isabella: I LOVE this hashtag – it could not be more accurate! There is nothing easy about this sport. The cliché saying that it ...

The main colour of the Giro d’Italia is pink, so it’s not surprising that there are so many girls following it as fans or working at the race. For example, you can see them dancing in the publicity caravan, the colourful parade of official sponsors that precedes the riders every day, distributing giveaways to the spectators waiting along the road for the big cycling show. And, of course, during the first three stages in Israel, you couldn’t miss the local beauty Bar Refaeli, godmother of the Giro’s first Grande Partenza outside Europe.   On the podium of every stage, you can also meet the wonderful women ready to award the pink jersey for the leader of the general classification, the cyclamen jersey for the points classification leader, the blue jersey for the best climber and the white jersey for the best young rider. A voice very familiar to the riders is that of official announcer Barbara Pedrotti, who welcomes them every morning at the Start Village, while one voice that is heard every day in the team cars is that of Isabella Negri – she translates into English the information that comes from the Italian race radio about the situation ...
