Some of the world’s best fixie-speed specialists turned out Saturday October 11th in Milan, Italy, to compete in the Red Hook Crit Milano, an un-sanctioned street race, now in its fifth edition. As with the RHC Brooklyn, Barcelona, and Milano, Castelli continued its support of the series by providing the official race jerseys for the event. Photo rights: Castelli

The fifth edition of the Red Hook Criterium Milan ticks all the boxes for a great cycling party central, its fun, sociable, enjoyable, sociable, fast and exhilarating as 100 fixed gear bicycles tackled the 1.2 kilometers race course over multiple laps of a fast twisty route within the desolate streets in the Bovisa area of Milan. The field consists of elite-level road, track, cyclocross, and mountain bike racers, bike messengers and urban cyclists. The RHC has developed a unique style of cycling event that combines the underground art of street racing with the intensity of high-level competition in a spectator-friendly atmosphere. The Romanian street-speed specialist and last years winner, Edward Grosu, took his third RHC victory, while the podium was completed by Italian Ivan Ravaioli  in second and Julio Padilla of Guatemala in third place. andrew, castelli, criterium, dauphine, garmin. sharp, nothing, sharp, talansky -

Leeds, UK. It’s the Wednesday before the Tour de France and it’s the first time we catch up with Andrew since his epic win at the Dauphiné. While it would have been cool to have actually been at the Dauphiné finish, that would have meant missing the most riveting day of racing and seeing every move on TV. When Andrew rolled into the hotel lobby, you could see the change in the man. He had a lighter step. And a big smile. He exuded confidence, but not a cocky confidence. Just calm confidence. We met Andrew at the team training camp in his first year at Garmin-Cervélo in 2011. He was gracious enough to sit down for a couple of long chats touching on everything from his goals, his thoughts on joining Garmin, the new generation of clean cyclists, and the difference that clothing can make at this level. Andrew immediately impressed as a bright, articulate neo pro but certainly didn’t lack in ambition or confidence. Some journalists called him cocky which didn’t quite sit with what we saw. I’d say it was more of an inward focus on getting the best out of himself. He started 2011 with a ...

For one special weekend in June the racing and cycling community of Italy descend upon the small town of Feltre based in the hills of the Italian Dolomites. The town has seen Giro action many times but this is not what people come for, they arrive in their local team or club kits ready to take on one the best amateur events I’ve been privileged to do. Castelli along with local club Pedale Feltrino organise and run the Castelli 24hr, as the name would suggest its a race that runs for the one solid day, from 10pm on the 5th June till the 10pm the next night. Hordes of teams race against each other around a 3km circuit that surrounds the old part of the historic town. Crowds line the street cheering and encouraging the participants at all hours of the day and night, music blares from speakers surrounding the circuit jeeping the atmosphere pumped up. Teams of between 11 or 12 riders split the work load of this 24 hours between each of them. This may sound easy, after all it works out at about just two hours each of racing, this is not so, usually each rider tackles ...

The Castelli 24-hour race ticks all the boxes for a great cycling party central, its fun, sociable, enjoyable, sociable, fast and exhilarating as 80 teams of 12 riders tackle the 24 hour race. Each of them had their own tactic for the race, splitting the team in to groups of three who rotated in a two – three hour shifts, typically riding between 15-25 minutes throughout with crowds screaming all the way around the circuit. Amongst those riding for the victory, measured in total number of laps, were some of Italy’s top amateur teams, a few professionals and ex- world champions, you know it’s no walk in the park. Enjoy the stunning images by Enrico Ubezio from a great event in the heart of Feltre.
