When your whole life has revolved around racing what happens when it’s time to unpin the number and exit the bubble of the pro peloton? The basic fundamentals of what makes an athlete who they are – focus, drive, ambition, self proclaimed narcissism – simply don’t go away. In a rare post ride interview at David Millar’s home, overlooked by Rocacorba, Mike Cotty (The Col Collective) sit down with himself and long time friend and business partner Richard Pearce to delve deeper into the creation of Velo Club Rocacorba, moments of the past and what the next chapter in Millar’s life now holds. A video with David Millar climbing the famous Rocacorba near Girona can be found here. Video produced by The Col Collective Visit the Castelli website for more details on Chpt./// collection.

Within a stone’s throw of the beautiful Costa Brava and Pyrénées, the medieval town of Girona has been home to many of the world’s professional cyclists for close to two decades, offering the perfect environment for a cyclist looking to hone their form on quiet roads and with favourable year round temperatures. While Nice is famous for the Col de la Madone and Lucca the Monte Serra, Girona has its very own secret amongst friends, just 20 kilometres north of the old town. Named after the 12th century Santuari de Rocacorba that sits just shy of the summit this is a climb that, although not as well known as some of the more popular peaks, has a significance all of its own – especially for one rider in particular. A pro for 18 years David Millar’s turbulent career has been well documented, most notably in his books Racing Through the Dark and The Racer. Having moved to Girona a decade ago Millar is part of the history of Rocacorba, in fact the climb had such significance to the Scotsman that it’s woven deep into the tapestry of life well after racing and now as a social bike rider with the ...

PERFETTO JERSEY – PRO REQUESTED PERFECTION There’s no denying that the Gabba jersey has been a game changer in pro cycling. Most of the peloton pulls it out whenever the weather is cold or wet. But sometimes the Gabba can be too warm. Its allover protection can make it feel too hot for racing in cool conditions, so our pro riders asked for protection like the Gabba but with more breathability for milder conditions. THE START OF A NEW CHAPTER – CHPT. /// Chpt. III x Castelli is a unique collaboration between recently retired British pro David ...

Once again Castelli starts a new chapter together with David. By coincidence or destiny we started our own comeback chapter with David at Saunier Duval in 2007 and then joined up again for his last 4 years. At some unremarkable race hotel the seeds were sown for a new creative collaboration. We’ve always obsessively focused on performance clothing for the racer, now we’re focused on one very stylish bike racer as the focus shifts. British-Italian fusion at its finest. “I’ve created a brand that will encompass everything I’ve learnt from my years racing at the highest level, our first project is the most obvious as it’s what I’ve often been most involved – clothing.” (David Millar) From David’s side it’s been a long time coming. “In my final years racing I repeatedly got asked about the next chapter in my life, was I excited about? What would it be? That sort of thing. Well, this is it, and this time, nobody’s telling me what to wear. “I’ve created a brand that will encompass everything I’ve learnt from my years racing at the highest level, our first project is the most obvious as it’s what I’ve often been most involved – ...

Retired only in the sporting sense, David Millar has hardly had time to put his feet up after a 17-year professional cycling career.  Following his retirement at the end of last season, David Millar has teamed up with the Italian car brand, Maserati, as the official cycling ambassador and event sponsor for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire. “Just like the sport of cycling, motor sport is steeped in history.” “Just like the sport of cycling, motor sport is steeped in history, and the Maserati brand has played a key role in this rich heritage, through 100 years of engineering innovation,” says David Millar. “I am excited that two of my greatest passions in life are being combined and delighted to be involved from the start of what looks set to be a fantastic initiative. The first of these experiences will be the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire Ride on Sunday 3rd May.
