Defending Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae had planned to somehow produce something even better than last year’s masterpiece. Mirinda Carfrae’s third Ironman World Championship victory on Saturday in Kona, Hawaii, didn’t look like a possibility at the T2 (transition from bike to run), Carfrae exited with more than 14 minutes behind then race leader Daniela Ryf. Carfrae broke her own run course record, set last year, when she moved past Ryf in the marathon and giving her the third Ironman world title of her career. Two years after launching its line of innovative triathlon apparel, Castelli was again worn to victory at the pinnacle event of the sport. Carfrae wore the scorpion to a stunning victory, with 2013 Champion Frederick Van Lierde finishing 8th on the day, and a host of other professionals and countless age groupers relying on the technical advantages of Castelli tri gear to achieve their personal bests. “The input and feedback of the sport’s top professionals has been crucial in the development of our entire range of triathlon apparel.”       “We couldn’t be happier for Rinny,” said Castelli Brand Manager Steve Smith.  “The input and feedback of the sport’s top professionals has been crucial in the development of our entire range ...

Triple Ironman Hawaii world champion Mirinda Carfrae never did a long distance race in Europe before. For her first appearance she decided on racing the 30th anniversary of classic Challenge Roth, a triathlon with a long history and probably one of the most popular tri events all over the world. The whole region of “Landkreis Roth” is celebrating this race year by year and the support of locals and volunteers is unique. More than 200.000 spectators cheered for the athletes and the slogan “We are Family” isn’t just an empty platitude. Conditions were Kona-like with temperatures up to 35°C as the day progresses. But one thing at a time: Athletes were released in 16 waves starting at 06:30 with all the Pros and some top age group athletes. What’s special about this is that the swim is held in the canal of Main-Danube. Orientation – sometimes a challenge for open water swims – isn’t a big issue. Mirinda – who arrived about ten days before race day – was a bit in doubt about her shape at this time of the year since she never did a long distance race at that moment. Understandably enough her training is absolutely focused on Kona ...

Timothy O’Donnell and Mirinda Carfrae make it a double at St. Andrews. Despite the hurricane-like conditions the day before the race, the Challenge St Andrews took place today without a glitch. Superstar couple Tim O’Donnell and Mirinda Carfrae won in a time of 3:53:03 and 4:18:35 respectively. Except for the odd branches on the side of the road, there were very few signs of yesterday’s storm that caused all of Saturday’s races to be postponed until Sunday. Although the day started off cold, making wet suits mandatory, the temperature quickly rose to 28 degrees by the time athletes were on the run. Athletes completed the one loop swim course, then ran an uphill 400 m to transition. The two-loop bike course featured a series of rolling hills with strong winds at times, followed by a challenging but scenic run. Upon her win Carfrae said, “It was a world class course and tougher bike course that anticipated and I look forward to coming back!” Race organizers Tressa and Scott Bevington, who were up all night with their crew preparing for the races, were equally pleased, “We are thrilled with the outcomes of the races, especially given yesterday’s weather.” Kingsbrae Garden Challenge ...
