We first saw this back in 2009 when our Cervélo TestTeam rider Jeremy Hunt rode the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in knee warmers that he had cut to knee length. It took six years for it to catch on, but we saw half a dozen or so riders starting the 2015 Omloop with that same look. So we engineered a fabric that lets us leave a soft raw edge at the back of the knee that won’t cut into you, and we started riding prototypes. Once again the guys who do this for a living have come up with a new way to dress. It’s significantly warmer than a thermal short but doesn’t feel overdressed like a knicker. At the Belgian classics we’ve seen the pros cutting off their knee warmers to have a thermal layer just to the knee. So we made up some shorts to ride in and quickly realized that the pros are onto something. It feels significantly warmer than a thermal short but without the restriction of 3/4 knickers. We developed a soft raw-cut edge so it’s not going to cut into the back of your knee. Plus it looks very pro. Long socks required.

With the Mondiale Bibshort we simply set out to design the most comfortable, luxurious bibshort we could make. Everything we do in some way goes back to speed, and in this case the Mondiale short is made for your longest training rides to make you faster for race day in your Free Aero Race Bibshorts, or those rides where you’re just out enjoying your race fitness. Either way, this short is obscenely comfortable with its new 220g Cinquanta fabric with a full 50% Lycra® content that coddles you unlike any short you’ve ever worn. The construction builds on the comfort we developed with our Body Paint shorts, but the new higher-rebound fabric provides greater support with improved freedom of movement. Laser-cut ventilation on the back and no-sew bonded seams complete the feeling that we held absolutely nothing back in making the most comfortable short you’ve ever used. SECRET TRAINING STEALTH LOOK We call this the Secret Training look. Black, understated, quietly confident. Every bike racer knows that feeling of when you go into Secret Training mode, when your focus turns inward, when you’re concentrated on getting everything just right. You don’t want to draw attention to yourself as your entire ...

Kristian Sbaragli took a breakthrough victory yesterday at the La Vuelta stage 10 wearing the fastest aero jersey and short on the market. The wind-cheating properties of the Aero Race 5.0 jersey are so effective that you’ll save an average of 20 watts at 40km/h and around 35-40 seconds saved over an hour. Furthermore, the aero Velocity fabric is quick-drying and boasts a low weight keeping the jersey to a claimed 103 grams for a size large. Additionally, the fabric has a tightly knit weave that manages laminar airflow over the body.  The Free Aero Race Bib-short is further evidence of Castelli’s dedication to making clothing that provides a competitive advantage for top athletes. After 3 years in development, Castelli’s new top-of-the-line race short represents a significant increase in muscle support and comfort to go along with the wind tunnel tests that show a reducing power output by 10 watt savings at 50 km/hr compared to the outgoing model, Free Bib-short. The secret to these gains lies in how the shorts manage airflow across their multiple boundaries and textures — most obviously via the dimpling across the shorts’ outer plane.  Our best race short is now both more comfortable and more aerodynamic and represents the ...
