Kristin Weber started her cycling career in the early 2000’s with the Schwinn Homegrown Luna Chix Mountain Bike teams. A 2-time US National Cyclocross Champion and 3-time medalist at Masters Cyclocross World Championships, Kristin loves to evangelize all things ‘cross and gravel and is especially excited to get more women involved in the sport.   There is something about the cold, hibernal months that always pulls me into a state of reflection. December closed out the past year with a stamp on its events in a permanent and finite way, and last year was one of the hardest years of my life.    2019 was the year I lost Andy, my best guy friend, the father to three sons and lover to one beautiful woman. Andy died of a massive heart attack while racing in a duo mountain bike race with his 12-year old son in Steamboat, Colorado. If that doesn’t take your breath away, nothing will.     The ensuing months were a journey of grief that took me aback by their fervent and powerful hold. As a previous host of the 2013 Cyclocross World Championships, Louisville, Kentucky was familiar with dramatic events. Heavy snowmelt and a river rising onto the race course being one of them. This year, the weather delivered in a more predictable way. Rain came down and riders churned the wet hillsides into muddy trenches, the way it’s supposed to happen. At least in the world of cyclocross. But the event also delivered some of the most incredible race stories and rider performances that could be hoped for. Castelli teams and athletes, from juniors to the elites, all raced with grit, carrying mud-thickened bikes like crosses, and often finished with smiles and looks of disbelief. Here’s a look back on the mud and gray skies, on emotional performances, and on seemingly unthinkable victories.

Il Lombardia is the final Monument of the five in the cycling season and it is usually the last major outing for the pro riders before they take their off-season break. The ‘race of the falling leaves’ was a real battle that had been won by the great climbing specialist Thibaut Pinot who set a show with Vincenzo Nibali. But the real surprise was Egan Bernal of Team Sky who took the front of the group on the descent after the brutal Muro di Sormano climb. Now the season is finished but we are pretty sure that the Colombian will be one of the protagonists of the next year. Enjoy our photo gallery! Photos: Getty Images / Edoardo Civiero
