Concerts all ends in the same way. The band plays one of the best songs and then disappears behind the stage, leaving a yelling public hoping they will come back for two or three more songs. The cycling season is just the same, with the world championships being the best song played by the best band in the world — a peloton dressed up in national kit colors battling for the rainbow jersey. This year we’ve been amazed by an amazing race on Innsbruck course (yes, the one ending with the brutal Hottinger Holl climb we tested for you) won by the immortal Alejandro Valverde. Luckily for us, the riders are staying behind the curtain for just 10 days and will be back in action on October 10 to play three fantastic songs on our very special Italian stage. Team training camps are always a mix of training, gear testing and preparation, alongside some free time for the riders and staff to relax together. Davide Cassani’s Italian selection for the 2018 world championships set up camp there to fine-tune the riders’ preparation, build team spirit, and create the right atmosphere to move to Innsbruck on Thursday and try to take the rainbow jersey on Sunday. Matteo Trentin finished off a well-planned team performance by the Italian squad on a rainy and cool day in Glasgow yesterday. “We rode perfectly as a team and I have to thank everyone who has supported me during my problems and injuries.” Matteo and most of his teammates were dressed in the Sanremo Speed Suit, an aerodynamic skinsuit for road racing. During the beginning of the 230k long race over 16 laps the Italians were covered in Gabba Jerseys, the ideal protection layer for a cool and wet Scottish day.
