Ci provi, ci riprovi e niente. Non ti lasciano proprio andare. Oppure ce la fai, sei solo o in gruppetto, e per un centinaio di chilometri sogni di arrivare a braccia alzate, ma senti il fiato sul collo del gruppo che da un momento all’altro può spezzare ogni tua brama di vittoria. La fuga è così, un azzardo, un po’ come giocare al casinò: rischi e magari non ti gira mai sulla ruota giusta. Oppure sì, va come deve andare e ti regali una giornata da leone, come quella di Dario Cataldo che, dopo 218 km di fuga in compagna di Mattia Cattaneo, domenica ha trionfato nella quindicesima tappa sulle strade rese celebri da una classica monumento quale il Giro di Lombardia. Una corsa che nel 2016 rischiò di vincere Diego Rosa, quando fu secondo alle spalle di Esteban Chaves. Il trentenne piemontese è un altro che di fughe se ne intende e il suo arrivo con la bicicletta alzata al cielo dopo il successo nella 5ª tappa del Giro dei Paesi Baschi 2016, a coronamento di una avventura solitaria di più di 100 km, è ancora negli occhi di tutti. Video: Dreaming of the rainbow jersey

Valverde finally has the rainbow jersey. He had come close on so many previous occasions, with six medals already, but he finally took the victory in Innsbruck this year. Among a few stars, our rider Gianni Moscon shone, doing an amazing job and finishing in fifth place, escorted carefully by the complete Italian team until the last brutal climb, Höttinger Höll. We are pretty sure that one day, quite soon, we will wear the world champion’s jersey, but in the meantime we want to say thank you to Camilla Alessio, Tatiana Guderzo, Gabriele Benedetti, Alessandro Fancellu, Marco Frigo, Andrea Piccolo, Samuele Rubino, Antonio Tiberi and all the Italian riders who gave us the opportunity to experience some very special moments that we will never forget. Video: Gianni Moscon’s thoughts on the Elite Men’s race

Gianni Moscon is certainly one of the Italian riders to keep an eye on Sunday. The race might me too hard for such a rider, and someone doubts about him due to the long stop after the Tour de France. Truth is every national team will be watching him closely because he showed good condition during the recent Italian races and because he is so strong that leaving him five meters could mean seeing him again at the finish line. Great performance in Bergen with seven medals for the Italian athletes

It was a brilliant week for the Italian national team at the 2017 UCI Road World Championships. Italy won the most medals in Bergen, with seven – all in the junior categories. Elena Pirrone doubled up for the gold medals in the time trial and road race. In the junior men’s road race, Luca Rastelli and Michele Gazzoli won the minor medals, while Alessia Vigilia won silver in the junior women’s time trial and Letizia Paternoster bronze in the road race. In the elite men’s road race, Italy was one of the dominant teams marking all the moves when the morning breakaway came back, with Alessandro De Marchi going in the break with a few laps to go, Gianni Moscon bridging across when Julian Alaphilippe launched a stinging attack on the final climb of Salmon Hill, and Alberto Bettiol leading out Matteo Trentin, who came close to his first world championships podium finish in a head-to-head sprint with some of the world’s fastest sprinters.
