Kristin Weber started her cycling career in the early 2000’s with the Schwinn Homegrown Luna Chix Mountain Bike teams. A 2-time US National Cyclocross Champion and 3-time medalist at Masters Cyclocross World Championships, Kristin loves to evangelize all things ‘cross and gravel and is especially excited to get more women involved in the sport.   There is something about the cold, hibernal months that always pulls me into a state of reflection. December closed out the past year with a stamp on its events in a permanent and finite way, and last year was one of the hardest years of my life.    2019 was the year I lost Andy, my best guy friend, the father to three sons and lover to one beautiful woman. Andy died of a massive heart attack while racing in a duo mountain bike race with his 12-year old son in Steamboat, Colorado. If that doesn’t take your breath away, nothing will.     The ensuing months were a journey of grief that took me aback by their fervent and powerful hold. People lose their loved ones every day, but until it happens to you, you can’t quite know or understand what your version ...

Have you ever wondered if it would be possible to climb 5,000-plus meters on small country roads in less than 120 kilometers? Some call it fun. Some call it torture. Igor Tavella, Ashley Norris Gruber, and Jered Gruber jump at the chance to ride the #YOLOmites5000 every year in September. An all-day adventure along the flanks of the Dolomites with a mix of gravel, dirt and asphalt. Not a flat road in sight, and packed full of adventure.     How did it all begin? We met up with Igor and Jered less than 10 hours before the start of the 2018 edition of the YOLOmites5000.   “I wondered if it would be possible to do 5,000 meters of climbing on all the little roads in less than 100 kilometers. Igor laughed – of course! At that moment, an idea was born,” said Jered.   “This is not for everyone. If you can’t stand the idea of walking your bike or maybe getting muddy or banging down a steep gravel descent, don’t even think of coming. It’s possible to ride everything, but I’m guessing 99 percent of participants will walk their bikes at some point. Even Igor has to ...

– FIND THE INSPIRATIONAL VIDEO’S BELOW – The 2018 edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites – Enel will kick off on July 1 in the Badia valley of Italy’s far north. More than 9,000 riders will climb out of the darkness, just before dawn breaks over the surrounding limestone peaks of the Dolomites. The race is a must for every serious cyclist. The landscape of the Dolomites is so important and so inspiring that it’s protected by UNESCO, and every year the Maratona has an environment-related theme. The race’s patron, Michil Costa, is what the Italians call a “personaggio,” a character. His goal is to get people to connect with nature, to contemplate their place in it, and to appreciate not only its fragile beauty but also what that beauty can do for our own fragilities. Riding here might be tough on the legs, but it does wonders for a stressed-out mind. Because Castelli’s head office is near the Badia valley, Castelli staff live, ride, run or ski in these mountains all year. Finding the right elements and inspiration for the Maratona jersey was the motivational state that brought the 2018 kit design from idea to reality.  “Getting the call ...

ATTENTION! You are about to read the one-day journey of a Canadian lady attending a cycling photo shoot in the Dolomites. This may content pastries, coffees and mountains. Reader’s discretion is advised. 7:30 AM— leaving the office Leaving the headquarters moment before the first ray of dawn, crisp morning air, we knew the day wasn’t going to be warm and hoped the changing weather of the mountains would be on our side. Heading up and down through the meandering roads leading right into the monumental Dolomites, Corvara in Badia. 9:15 AM— the arrival All the way to get there until the first location, a continual feeling of amazement inhabited me. The powerful attraction led by the numerous peaks (no wonder it’s a UNESCO world heritage site) made me feel so little but such in peaceful state of mind at the same time. 9:45 AM— meeting with the crew … but first coffee I could then feel that even if the weather were not likely to be on our side, we would have a good day. The models, the team and the Gruber’s (Ashley and Jered, photographers and dear friend of Castelli), everyone had an optimistic energy ready to chase the sun and authentic ...

The Dolomites have a lot to offer to cyclists: spectacular peaks and legendary passes. To race or simply to get a glimpse of one of the many rides that the Dolomites are offering, Sella Ronda is maybe one of the most reachable circuit with a length of 55 kilometres and a gained altitude of 1780 metres. We have gathered five women, part of our women’s cycling community, to experience the mythical Sella Ronda pass in the Dolomites and share their passion for cycling. State of feverish excitement, joyful anticipation, fears, advices, were all shared by every single one of them during the three days journey. Surrounded by a spirit of camaraderie and mutual help, the group was challenged with different types of weather conditions (rain, sun, mist, cold) which they were easily able to defeat with the right piece of clothing like the Gabba and the Perfetto. Some of them have even witnessed the state of bliss riding with a group of women by combining different visions of the sport: for some, the happiness of riding, for others, the performance, brought all together by several factors such as the gear, the place but also the people. They have joined their forces and weaknesses to ...
