Stage 14 of this year’s Giro d’Italia was classified as one of the crucial stages. Riders had to handle a 60k ITT between Treviso and Valdobbiadene, basically packed with two climbs followed by technical descents. This meant ‘full throttle’ for stage hunters and GC contenders and some maths for domestiques to stay within the time cut. As if that was not enough, it was raining all day. After visiting a few GT stages in the past few years – a must do for every cycling fan – I was lucky enough to receive a special invitation for that stage. In short: following a rider in the team car. How cool is that? ‘My’ rider was Tom-Jelte Slagter who launched a solo breakaway on stage 9 but unfortunately missed the stage win on that day. I arrived at the Cannondale-Garmin team bus at around midday, got a quick briefing and had a chance to watch the riders in their warm-up. One after another followed a precise timing on the rollers. Some found time for a quick chat with the media or joked with mechanics or team mates. Ryder Hesjedal – winner of the 2012 Giro d’Italia – was even followed by ...

This weekend Paris-Roubaix, the Queen of the Monuments of the european calendar, will see the start. Rode for first time in 1896, is the dream either the nightmare for every cyclist. Pavé roads for many kilometers will test nerves and bikes, and companies producing bikes or tyres are always searching for the weapon X to avoid mechanichal problems or punctures. Falling down is part of race, and who finishes the entire race, whitour reching the podium, could say it’s a quite good result. Since 1977 a part of the prize is a cobble stone, like those the winner has dominated during the race. Cannondale-Garmin is on the track right now testing the roads, the feeling with this hell road, expecially in the Arenberg Forest and Carrefour de l’Arbre area. See this beautiful photogallery by Jered Gruber, following Cannondale-Garmin pro cycling team in the track recon.

The work never ends. Cannondale-Garmin DS Andreas Klier said that there was a lot of work for the staff today. Long-time mechanic, Geoff Brown, looked up from swapping out cassettes and laughed, “When do we not have a lot of work?” Klier laughed. Good point.   11×28 The cassette that all of the riders will be on come Sunday. N8. Between Oudenaarde and the Oude Kwaremont, the team bus pulled over, and the riders tentatively made their way out clad in every kind of protective garb you can imagine. It was cold and wet and windy. A few snowflakes even fell at the beginning at the beginning of the day. First on the menu: oude kwaremont. The plan for the day: ride the final 155 kilometers of Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen. No shortcuts, no skips, no zigs when the course zags – just the route. Simple. It’s a Klier thing – keep it simple. And thorough. Eikenberg. It won’t look like this on Sunday. The Eikenberg is a complete mess on race day. Andreas Klier. Andreas is one of our favorites. Andreas was our first ever model on our first ever shoot on a snowy, icy, freezing cold December morning ...
