The Queen of the classics is the highlight and closing event of the cobbled classics every year. Each cobbled sector is ranked out of five stars for difficulty. History was written, dramas unfolded and heroes were born on the mythical cobbled sectors such as Trouée d’Arenberg, Mons-en-Pévèle and Le Carrefour de l’Arbre. Anja Kallenbach – who has already been to lots of every cyclist’s dream destinations – wanted to explore the spirit and conditions of the “Hell of the North” and rode the course a few days ago including some laps in the Roubaix velodrome and a visit in the historical showers. Who will be Greg Van Avermaet’s successor and lift the prestigious cobble stone trophy this Sunday? Imagery and video: AK21Photography | Anja Kallenbach

One of the toughest one-day races in the calendar has already been casting its shadow earlier this week and teams were busy with reconnaissance and fine-tuning their equipment for Sunday. It looks like another dry edition. The last muddy edition of Paris-Roubaix was way back in 2002 by the way. The following gallery is a retrospective of the recent history (Castelli coloured) and should fuel the fire and excitement for RBX. Images by Tim De Waele, Ashley and Jered Gruber

No matter what weather presented itself for the great cobbled Classics, the races were as punishing for riders as they were equally thrilling for fans. The looming bergs of Flanders and the dusty, broken farm roads leading to Roubaix were incredibly selective and the strong only stood taller after navigating their way safely through. Shaken, bruised, even bleeding, they pushed on. Here is a look back on an incredible week at some of the most beautiful races in the world.
