Tulsa Pt. 2: Tough

Cry Baby Hill: the culmination of three days of criterium racing at Tulsa Tough. Hot streets and surging crowds. A hill climb that grits the teeth of every rider that passes through. Despite the party-like carnival of costumed revelers, a rider may see nothing but a blur of spectators at the fringes. Eyes focused on the hilltop. The 10% grade ends with a fast descent and a hard right, followed by a straightaway. Then the climb begins again. On repeat, for over an hour. Or less, if you’re lucky. Tough love, as they say. It is the race that you can’t help thinking of at the beginning of the weekend of racing. But first, the Blue Dome and Brady Arts Criteriums. Great crowds for Tulsa nights and the constant threat of summer storms. Fireworks for sure. Congratulations to all of the Castelli riders who put scorpions on the top steps of the podium each day. Tulsa Pt. 1

Tulsa, Oklahoma was a bit of a mystery to us as we first arrived. We knew that there were three nights of great racing ahead at Tulsa Tough that we were excited to see—including the infamous Cry Baby Hill—but we figured it would be best to ease into the weekend first. Meeting up with some of our local teams for a ride got things started in excellent fashion. After a café gathering and breakfast tacos the group of riders was properly fueled to roll out. We began by heading north through sleepy Friday morning neighborhoods to the edge of the city. Riders jostled each other for position at the head of the group for a bit of camera attention. Soon those neighborhoods blended into various highway stretches and concrete interims before hitting green fields against sloping hillsides. A heaviness to the morning air. Sky turning to a deep gray perimeter. Summer storms were predicted for the weekend, but thankfully they skirted the area in the morning. MTN-Qhubeka on the pavé for Paris-Roubaix

More than a race, Parix-Roubaix is a surviving test. Wiggins, Boom and Kristoff probably will drive the race, and whatever will be, Paris-Roubaix will be epic. Let’s take a look at this photogallery made by Jered Gruber. Honestly these photos make us dream if we think to the race of this weekend. You can see the dust from the cobble stone with this MTN-Qhubeka peloton, and it makes you think how much mess there will be sunday on the race with 25 teams riding this race. We have MTN-Qhubeka teams here, making a brief for the race. MTN-Qhubeka obtained the wild card to ride in this race. MTN’s team is not short of Classics experience either, with Edvald Boasson Hagen, Tyler Farrar and Theo Bos likely to lead the line this spring. MTN’s fellow Tour de France invitees, Bora – Argon 18 will also line up at the Hell of the North, having taken part in the race as NetApp-Endura in 2014. Wanty-Groupe Gobert’s Bjorn Leukemans was the best-placed wildcard finisher in last year’s race, finishing 47s down on winner Niki Terpstra in 15th.

Briefing for Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team on Paris-Roubaix track

This weekend Paris-Roubaix, the Queen of the Monuments of the european calendar, will see the start. Rode for first time in 1896, is the dream either the nightmare for every cyclist. Pavé roads for many kilometers will test nerves and bikes, and companies producing bikes or tyres are always searching for the weapon X to avoid mechanichal problems or punctures. Falling down is part of race, and who finishes the entire race, whitour reching the podium, could say it’s a quite good result. Since 1977 a part of the prize is a cobble stone, like those the winner has dominated during the race. Cannondale-Garmin is on the track right now testing the roads, the feeling with this hell road, expecially in the Arenberg Forest and Carrefour de l’Arbre area.
