To some people the link between Team Sky and Castelli is obvious. But we still get some people asking “Why Sky?” Sir Dave Brailsford said it best: “They will be more than a kit supplier; they will be an innovation partner. Castelli has a long history of breaking new ground when it comes to kit and design. We will continue to push hard to make sure our riders have the best clothing and equipment, and we’re already excited about some of the ideas Castelli are working on with us.” Sir Dave is describing the partnership from Team Sky’s point of view, but he also perfectly captures why Castelli wants to partner with Team Sky. Our goal at Castelli is to make sure riders have the best clothing and equipment, to be the leading performance-based innovator in technical sports apparel, and to continue to incubate ideas that make your riding faster and more fun. “They will be more than a kit supplier; they will be an innovation partner.” Both Team Sky and Castelli have product innovation not only as part of the ethos but also as part of the formal organization. By combining the most innovative apparel producer with the most ...

Aero race jersey, custom clothing, custom team clothing, free aero race bibshort, Product talk, servizio corse -

Story by Chris Hovenden | cyclingweekly.co.uk Custom kit goes much further than just teams and clubs nowadays. When it comes to making cycling kit, the Italian company has an impressive pedigree. Castelli started manufacturing clothing in 1876, in the 1940s it created custom jerseys for Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi, and it claims to have been the first to use the current sublimation printing process back in 1983. If you choose Castelli’s Pro Issue range you’ll get the same kit as supplied to the WorldTour Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling Team. However, if you are looking for a more forgiving fit there’s the Team issue range that is aimed at club riders. The on test Pro Issue custom kit looks top drawer and feels high quality to the touch. Costing £74.99 (plus VAT and based on an order of 10) the Free Aero Race Bibshorts aren’t cheap, but even at that hefty price they are hard to fault. The chamois gives you no reason to complain whether sat up on the back of the saddle or riding on the rivet in a more forward, aggressive position. The side panels are dimpled for improved aerodynamics; and the netted gripper does a great job ...

Our friends at bikeboard.cc came by the office to visit our European Servizio Corse Custom team division in Fonzaso, Italy. A sneak peek behind the scenes of the Castelli Servizio Corse Custom Team Division and followed the production process of our own custom-design clothing. Individually printed, functional clothing is still very popular among hobby and amateur cyclists. Castelli is considered to be the inventor of sublimation printing, a very common process of manufacturing these days. We went to Manifattura Valcismon SpA, headquarters of the brands Castelli and Sportful, located in Fonzaso (Veneto) and glimpsed behind the scenes. 25 years ago, the main production of Castelli and Sportful was run in Italy. Today, the headquarters is only production plants for samples, prototypes, smaller custom team orders and the whole clothing for sponsored professional teams and athletes. The majority of the inline collection production and custom team clothing are outsources to different factories in Europe. At its headquarters, Manifattura Valcismon SpA employs approximately 120 staff for research & development, design, marketing, sales and storage. R&D and small series production Developing and testing is key for Castelli and Sportful. That’s why prototypes are tested by employees during daily lunch rides or at weekends under various ...

Cry Baby Hill, custom team clothing, Photo, Racing, servizio corse, Tulsa Tough -

Cry Baby Hill: the culmination of three days of criterium racing at Tulsa Tough. Hot streets and surging crowds. A hill climb that grits the teeth of every rider that passes through. Despite the party-like carnival of costumed revelers, a rider may see nothing but a blur of spectators at the fringes. Eyes focused on the hilltop. The 10% grade ends with a fast descent and a hard right, followed by a straightaway. Then the climb begins again. On repeat, for over an hour. Or less, if you’re lucky. Tough love, as they say. It is the race that you can’t help thinking of at the beginning of the weekend of racing. But first, the Blue Dome and Brady Arts Criteriums. Great crowds for Tulsa nights and the constant threat of summer storms. Fireworks for sure. Congratulations to all of the Castelli riders who put scorpions on the top steps of the podium each day. Blue Dome Criterium – Friday Brady Arts District Criterium – Saturday River Parks Criterium (featuring Cry Baby Hill) – Sunday

Tulsa, Oklahoma was a bit of a mystery to us as we first arrived. We knew that there were three nights of great racing ahead at Tulsa Tough that we were excited to see—including the infamous Cry Baby Hill—but we figured it would be best to ease into the weekend first. Meeting up with some of our local teams for a ride got things started in excellent fashion. After a café gathering and breakfast tacos the group of riders was properly fueled to roll out. We began by heading north through sleepy Friday morning neighborhoods to the edge of the city. Riders jostled each other for position at the head of the group for a bit of camera attention. Soon those neighborhoods blended into various highway stretches and concrete interims before hitting green fields against sloping hillsides. A heaviness to the morning air. Sky turning to a deep gray perimeter. Summer storms were predicted for the weekend, but thankfully they skirted the area in the morning. Most riders were preparing for the Friday evening race and the last bit of a grind up the final hill may not have been what they had planned, but the the distant cityscape on ...
