Dubai Tour 2016: Gathering of numerous stars

For this year’s Dubai Tour Mark Cavendish (the 2015 winner) will be in an illustrious circle of champions that includes Sir Bradley Wiggins, Philippe Gilbert, Rui Costa, Fabian Cancellara, Tony Martin and a band of sprinters including Elia Viviani and Andrea Guardini and Marcel Kittel. DUBAI TOUR 2016 STAGES The Dubai Tour is made up from three stages suited to the sprinters and one – stage three, The Westin Stage – to the puncheurs. The only fact that might split the race during the opening two stages are crosswinds that could come into play on the more open roads across the desert. Stage three repeats the uphill finish to Hatta Dam that was won by John Degenkolb last year. The German will miss the race but the short and steep climb (200 m) is ideally suited for riders like Juan Jose Lobato (Movistar) or Philippe Gilbert (BMC). The final stage without any climbing will probably be decided in a bunch sprint and should fix – together with bonus points – the order of the final classification. The UCI World Tour’s Best Dressed Team

The team’s signature argyle pattern takes a more prominent position on the jersey, as does the name of the 2016 naming sponsor, Cannondale. This Castelli-designed jersey brings together the Argyle Armada motif of Slipstream Sports with the strong green corporate colors of Cannondale to provide greater visibility in the group or from the helicopter, but with black shorts to keep the look classic. AN ONGOING SEARCH FOR INNOVATION AND PERFORMANCE Castelli has spent the last year making numerous improvements to the pro team clothing, based both on rider feedback and on ideas from Castelli’s internal innovation team. There are a total of 24 improvements to the race clothing and nine all-new models, each designed to help the Cannondale riders go faster and stay more comfortable in all weather conditions. Rider feedback and wind tunnel testing have led to a notable update to the Aero Race jersey, which gains an additional 2 watts in aero savings while becoming more breathable and better fitting. Those changes are also carried over to the Sanremo Speedsuit, and the lightweight Climber’s jersey now provides the same aero savings as last year’s Aero Race jersey. 1989 TdF Leader Jerseys

For the 1989 edition of the Tour de France, Castelli had the Italian pop painter and sculptor, Mario Schifano, to design the official Tour leader jerseys. Yellow, King of the Mountains, Green, Red and Combination. (There was no white jersey, for best young rider, awarded in the 1989 Tour.) Mario Schifano did a great job of enhancing and modernizing the look of the jerseys, by incorporating colorful and dynamic graphics into the traditional designs of the official jerseys. The strength of the PDM team was reflected by not only winning the team classification and having four cyclists in the top ten of the general classification, but also by winning four of the five secondary individual classifications: Sean Kelly won both the points and intermediate sprints classifications, Gert-Jan Theunisse won the mountains classification and Steven Rooks won the combination classification. The young rider classification was won by French Fabrice Philipot from the Toshiba team. YELLOW – OVERALL CLASSIFICATION Greg Lemond won the “Maillot Jaune” this year in what many consider the greatest Tour ever, when he beat Laurent Fignon by 8 seconds in the final stage. Servizio Corse – Customized cycling and triathlon clothing

Our friends at bikeboard.cc came by the office to visit our European Servizio Corse Custom team division in Fonzaso, Italy. A sneak peek behind the scenes of the Castelli Servizio Corse Custom Team Division and followed the production process of our own custom-design clothing. Individually printed, functional clothing is still very popular among hobby and amateur cyclists. Castelli is considered to be the inventor of sublimation printing, a very common process of manufacturing these days. We went to Manifattura Valcismon SpA, headquarters of the brands Castelli and Sportful, located in Fonzaso (Veneto) and glimpsed behind the scenes. 25 years ago, the main production of Castelli and Sportful was run in Italy. Today, the headquarters is only production plants for samples, prototypes, smaller custom team orders and the whole clothing for sponsored professional teams and athletes. The majority of the inline collection production and custom team clothing are outsources to different factories in Europe. At its headquarters, Manifattura Valcismon SpA employs approximately 120 staff for research & development, design, marketing, sales and storage. 33.100 cyclists have signed up for the Maratona Dles Dolomites

The numbers are in – 33.100 cyclists have signed up for a place in the ballot, with results announced early December 2015. The 30th edition of the Maratona dles Dolomites will be held on Sunday, 3 July, 2016.
