What does it take to win in Hawaii? Apparently Castelli’s Free tri line is de rigueur. Ironman champions Frederik Van Lierde and Mirinda Carfrae, along with XTERRA champ Ruben Ruzafa all earned their victories in Castelli’s Free race kits. Free is the result of years of Castelli aerodynamic research in cycling clothing resulting in flat seams and aerodynamic fabric surfaces that minimize time on the bike, along with run-enhancing comfort and temperature management. Rinny won in the Free W Tri Short that is the same that you can buy, though we had to make a custom fit for her small frame. Her Free W Tri Singlet is the same construction as our inline construction although she wanted it without the front zipper. Frederik used the Free one piece race suit. To give his sponsors maximum visibility he actually used the version with the back zipper that was designed for ITU racing. Ruben used the Free two piece suit that has carried him to multiple XTERRA victories all season. All three athletes enjoyed the innovative Kiss Tri seat pad. It’s one of the most padded seat pads in Tri for maximum comfort on the bike, but thanks to Castelli’s skiving technology ...

Free ITU Suit, hawaii, ironman, News, Triathlon, Van Lierde -

Hawaii Champion Frederik Van Lierde is back on the road to success. This year’s focus of the 35 year old Belgian lays on defending his Kona title in October. After finishing 4th at all his previous 2014 races so far (Abu Dhabi, Cannes and Aix en Provence), he showed this class and triumphed at half distance triathlon ‘Extreme Man’ in Düren (Germany). Just like at IRONMAN Hawaii, Van Lierde relied on Castelli’s one-pices suit FREE ITU SUIT. This suit is designed for best aerodynamics and comfort and – thanks to the two back pockets – is also suitable for long distance racing. Castelli also offers this world championship-winning piece to be customized for your team. After a short rest, he will proceed with his preparation for the European Championships at IRONMAN Frankfurt on July 6. This race will be a real showdown of some of the strongest athletes in IRONMAN circus including multiple IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Sebastian Kienle and Olympic Champion Jan Frodeno. The European triathlon season is already well underway and last weekend the first big Austrian race of the year took place in St. Pölten. It’s an advanced race and very popular within the triathlon family. Athletes are released in several waves (pros, multiple age groups). The swim is quite unique, as it’s the only triathlon with a two lake swim leg, interrupted by an Australian exit and a few hundreds meter of run in between. Out of the water, athletes quickly hit high-speed riding on a closed motorway towards Wachau. Most competitors won’t have eyes for the beauty of this World Cultural Heritage during the race which comes up with some demanding climbing in the second half of the 90k bike split. Back at the event area, a two loop half marathon to downtown St. Pölten completes the day. Our pro athletes claim high standards and at Castelli we develop our clothing for maximum comfort, suitability and aerodynamics. Being still a new brand in the triathlon business, it’s good to see that also more and more amateurs are wearing the scorpion and trust in our call to offer the best triathlon clothing on the market. During the day at St. ...

Knossalla, Matthias, News, tirathlon, Triathlon -

Last time you read my athletes diary I was on the beautiful island of Mallorca preparing for my first races in May. After hours and hours of endurance training I wanted to do some race-specific training sessions after I returned to Germany. Unfortunately my training looked like this: What had happened? Some years ago I dislocated my shoulder playing basketball. Some weeks later I had no more pain and started swimming again. Everything was fine for almost five years. Some months ago I noticed a sharp pain in my shoulder joint. I tried everything to get back to full strength but the pain was always there. My doc and I had several discussions what to do now but at the end surgery was the only possibility to get healthy again. After my training camp at Mallorca we decided to do surgery now. It was almost May and the season had started already. After a successful surgery my physiotherapist Erich and I lost no time to start the rehab training. We trained six days a week and always stared at 6:30 AM. Ouch… The first timetable to return to Duathlon races was set to 10 weeks. But all the hard work with ...

News, Triathlon -

I`m just back from Italy and my first race on the middle distance. After the London Olympics I made the big decision to move to longer distance and was really excited to start the new journey. I started training in January on Lanzarote island, then moved to Stellenbosch/South Africa for one month to get more millage done and finally ended the big part of my preparation in Portugal. Last weekend it was then time, to test my legs for the first time and to see where I`m on the way to Ironman Klagenfurt, my main goal for the first part of the season. I chosen the Challenge Rimini Half Distance, because I like Italy a lot and it is only a six hour drive from my home town Salzburg/Austria. When I arrived in Rimini and checked the course, I was straight away in love. A sea swim, very hilly bike with lots of corners and a nice fast run. The start field also proved to be a good test, with the current European champion and the second from last years half ironman world champs. On race day I was feeling good and after a solid swim and a good paced bike, I started the run ...
