This year’s Ironman World Championships proved that the annual gathering of the best triathletes usually is decided on the run. Conditions were hard with choppy waters and heavy winds. When leaving T2, Mirinda’s gap to Rachel Joyce run up to 14 minutes and 33 seconds. Victory seemed out of reach – but not for the Australian speedster. She quickly found her rhythm and passed one after another of the 7 athletes ahead of her. At around 6k to go, things came thick and fast. Rinny first flew past Joyce. Soon afterwards Swiss Daniela Ryf – a Hawaii rookie, the currant Ironman 70.3 World Champion and multiple winner of the season – was unable to respond.
With an incredible marathon of 2:50:26 she even topped her last year’s marathon record by 12 seconds and crossed the finish line at Alii Drive as an Ironman World Champion for the third time. Mirinda at the official press conference: “It’s a bit crazy. To say that I am overwhelmed, that would be totally understated. The run was super hard. I had no choice but full gas. Before the race my coach had told me that everything over 10 minutes in T2 would be too much. ...

Andreas Raelert, castelli, European Championship, frankfurt, Free ITU Suit, Germany, hawaii, ironman, Knoa, News, Triathlon, Van Lierde -

Every year Ironman Germany in Frankfurt is well known for its world class field of starters. That’s not at all surprising, as it’s the race for the European crown in triathlon. Castelli also had two hot irons in the fire, namely Ironman World Champion Frederik Van Lierde and Andreas Raelert. The performance of Raelert (who won in Frankfurt 2010) was eagerly awaited, as he only decided on his start a few days before the race. Unfortunately the German had to abandon during the run while fighting for a spot on the podium. When speaking of the podium, it’s been a battle between Frederik Van Lierde, Jan Frodeno and Sebastian Kienle, where the 2-time 70.3 World Champion had the better outcome at the finish. Castelli athlete Van Lierde finished second and ungrudgingly admitted, that Kienle was a class on his own in winning with new course record on his 30th birthday. Nevertheless the Belgian proved, that he is on the right track to defend his Kona title later this year at a reunion with Frodeno and Kienle among others. Top-3 men: 1. Sebastian Kienle (GER) 7:55:14 2. Frederik Van Lierde (BEL) 8:00:25 3. Jan Frodeno (GER) 8:07:05 Some more race impressions ...

What does it take to win in Hawaii? Apparently Castelli’s Free tri line is de rigueur. Ironman champions Frederik Van Lierde and Mirinda Carfrae, along with XTERRA champ Ruben Ruzafa all earned their victories in Castelli’s Free race kits. Free is the result of years of Castelli aerodynamic research in cycling clothing resulting in flat seams and aerodynamic fabric surfaces that minimize time on the bike, along with run-enhancing comfort and temperature management. Rinny won in the Free W Tri Short that is the same that you can buy, though we had to make a custom fit for her small frame. Her Free W Tri Singlet is the same construction as our inline construction although she wanted it without the front zipper. Frederik used the Free one piece race suit. To give his sponsors maximum visibility he actually used the version with the back zipper that was designed for ITU racing. Ruben used the Free two piece suit that has carried him to multiple XTERRA victories all season. All three athletes enjoyed the innovative Kiss Tri seat pad. It’s one of the most padded seat pads in Tri for maximum comfort on the bike, but thanks to Castelli’s skiving technology ...

Free ITU Suit, hawaii, ironman, News, Triathlon, Van Lierde -

Hawaii Champion Frederik Van Lierde is back on the road to success. This year’s focus of the 35 year old Belgian lays on defending his Kona title in October. After finishing 4th at all his previous 2014 races so far (Abu Dhabi, Cannes and Aix en Provence), he showed this class and triumphed at half distance triathlon ‘Extreme Man’ in Düren (Germany). Just like at IRONMAN Hawaii, Van Lierde relied on Castelli’s one-pices suit FREE ITU SUIT. This suit is designed for best aerodynamics and comfort and – thanks to the two back pockets – is also suitable for long distance racing. Castelli also offers this world championship-winning piece to be customized for your team. After a short rest, he will proceed with his preparation for the European Championships at IRONMAN Frankfurt on July 6. This race will be a real showdown of some of the strongest athletes in IRONMAN circus including multiple IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Sebastian Kienle and Olympic Champion Jan Frodeno.
