One or two piece? Nearly every triathlete has debated this question. Probably 98% of the men at Kona raced in two piece suits, but Frederik Van Lierde won in a Castelli Free one piece suit. Usually it’s a trade-off between aerodynamics and the convenience of being able to heed the call of nature. Castelli’s Sanremo construction brings the best of both worlds. It’s a one piece suit, but is only joined at the waist on the back and sides. The front is an overlap design with a full length YKK® camlock zipper. You get the smooth fit of a one piece, with the convenience of a two piece. The Sanremo construction was initially developed for Team Garmin for professional road racing and brought improved aerodynamics and comfort for cycling. It’s even more appropriate for triathlon. Of course the triathlon versions of our Sanremo suits come with a tri specific seat pad. The Kiss Tri pad is exceptionally comfortable on the bike and supportive but non-restrictive on the run. The overall concept of our Sanremo triathlon suits is rounded out by carefully designed and clever placed pockets. The special construction causes nearly zero extra drag during the swim and on the ...

Feeling comfortable while training or racing is absolutely essential for every athlete. And hey: Who would refuse being aero on top of that? Who ever have had smarting abrasions caused by a wet suit (because one forgot body glide/petroleum jelly or a rubbing zipper/collar) or irritating seams, would die for a worry-free race kit. Body Paint is Castelli’s technology of advanced engineered fabrics to eliminate seams and build components directly into the fabric. The Body Paint men’s and women’s triathlon shorts are each made out of a single piece of fabric yet offer perfect anatomic fit. The leg gripper is knit into the fabric and we don’t need to make extra panels for a contoured fit. The waist band is an engineered flat fabric with a raw edge that lays completely flat. A envelope pocket on the back holds a gel for the run. The near total lack of seams makes for a very aerodynamic product that consistently gives the lowest drag results in our wind tunnel testing. The lack of seams especially becomes evident when you hit the run and realize that you have no chafing. As one Kona competitor told us, “this is the first time that I’ve done an ...

Rider diary, by Matthias Knossalla – For my first training camp this year I decided to travel to the beautiful island of Mallorca. I always prefer staying in the north of Mallorca, because you find everything you need there. The Tramuntana mountains for example are only 20 kilometers away. One of my season highlights will be the Ironman Mallorca in September, so staying in Can Picafort (only 10 minutes away from the swim start) was a logical decision. Triathlon training camps are something special, if you have chosen a hotel which is well known for its good sporting facilities: Countless athletes in “Finisher Shirts” everywhere. You can even spot them at dinner. Please don’t wear them all the time! At most days we started our training at 07:00 a.m. with a short swim session, followed by a quick shower and the traditional sprint to the breakfast table. Being first is a huge honor. If you train 35 hours a week, it is important to get in all the calories you need. So try to maximize the total amount of calories. In the first three days we were riding on flat terrain in endurance pace at 230-240 watts. Later that week we included some threshold ...

Castelli introduces the new Core line of Tri products for the Summer 14 season. The Core Collection (men and women line) is a complete redevelopment and was designed for age group athletes who don’t necessarily need our Kona-winning Free aerodynamics but who want great fit and exceptional comfort plus durability for a full season of racing. Core brings many features from Castelli’s high end products. The Kiss Tri pad is exceptionally comfortable on the bike and on the run. The Speed Hooks are an innovative system that lets you hook your top to your shorts to prevent riding up for the swim and bike legs, yet can be unhooked for comfort during the run. And the high capacity aero pockets are nearly invisible to the wind or water, yet have enough capacity for a vest and arm warmers plus nutrition should race day turn cold. All pieces of the Core collection can be designed and sublimation printed to outfit your club through our Servizio Corse program.   Tim O’Donnel in Core CORE TRI TOP – go to product page CORE TRI SHORT – go to product page CORE TRI SUIT – go to product page CORE W TRI SINGLET – ...

News, Triathlon -

Right after his impressive triumph at Kona in October 2013, Belgian Frederik van Lierde had to work through a PR marathon and was also delighted to receive several awards. Following a short break and holidays with his family, Van Lierde restarted his build up for the 2014 season in December. By now he already completed a number of training camps which led him to the Canary Islands and Costa Blanca. This Saturday Van Lierde will return to competition at Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (3k swim, 200k bike, 20k run). As defending champion (he also won in 2011), the Ironman World Champion will race against some of the best athletes and aims for an informative and successful start of his season. Van Lierde will also debut his new 2014 Castelli triathlon kit. In cooperation with Castelli distributor (for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg) Wolvenberg he got a brand-new customized line of Castelli clothes for training and racing. As for racing Van Lierde will trust in the optimal aerodynamics and comfort of Castelli’s Free Tri ITU Suit. Van Lierde put together a well-conceived race schedule including some half distance races and Ironman Germany in Frankfurt (July 6), but in the end everything ...
