The 2017 jersey design brings a sort of British-Italian fusion. Designed by Richard Pearce and refined and implemented to cycling garments by Castelli’s senior designer Enrico Ubezio, the graphic celebrates the victories in Team Sky’s first 7 seasons. The classic Breton shirt served as inspiration but has been reimagined in a data pattern with each stripe on the jersey, short, mitts, socks and cap representing a specific Team Sky victory. The longest lines are the 4 Tour de France victories, with Chris Froome’s 2016 victory immediately below the Sky logo on the chest. The short dashes represent one-day races, while the medium-length lines represent multiday stage races, with the number of stages determining the length of the line. WorldTour races are blue lines, while non-WorldTour races are white. Perhaps most significantly, the gaps represent the ambition for future victories. The front of the jersey is made up of victories by 2017 team members, with the exception of Sir Bradley Wiggins’ 2012 Tour win, which has a special place in Team Sky history. The victory lines at the front of the jersey … 234. Tour de France, Chris Froome 220. Vuelta al Pais Vasco – Stage 2, Mikel Landa 223. Liege-Bastongne-Liege, Wout ...

To some people the link between Team Sky and Castelli is obvious. But we still get some people asking “Why Sky?” Sir Dave Brailsford said it best: “They will be more than a kit supplier; they will be an innovation partner. Castelli has a long history of breaking new ground when it comes to kit and design. We will continue to push hard to make sure our riders have the best clothing and equipment, and we’re already excited about some of the ideas Castelli are working on with us.” Sir Dave is describing the partnership from Team Sky’s point of view, but he also perfectly captures why Castelli wants to partner with Team Sky. Our goal at Castelli is to make sure riders have the best clothing and equipment, to be the leading performance-based innovator in technical sports apparel, and to continue to incubate ideas that make your riding faster and more fun. “They will be more than a kit supplier; they will be an innovation partner.” Both Team Sky and Castelli have product innovation not only as part of the ethos but also as part of the formal organization. By combining the most innovative apparel producer with the most ...

Original article by Nicola Busca | cyclingweekly.co.uk Team Sky rider and Castelli have developed specific skinsuits for each of the Omnium disciplines. Italian manufacturer Castelli has developed together with Team Sky rider Elia Viviani a customised skinsuit the Italian cyclist will wear at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro as he attempts to win Omnium gold. Viviani has worked in the wind tunnel of the Polytechnic University of Milan and tried 15 different suits and fabrics to find the best fit for the Olympics. “We tested 15 different textiles and cuts to find the one that suits him the best.” (Steve Smith, Castelli brand manager) “The models developed for Viviani has been developed from what we have been studied and developed in a long time”, says Steve Smith, Castelli brand manager. “We tested 15 different textiles and cuts to find the one that suits him the best, both for the individual and group races as the fabrics don’t perform in the same way with different speeds.” Viviani will compete in the Omnium, which features six different track racing disciplines, meaning that Castelli has developed multiple skinsuits, with each designed for a specific event. In the wind tunnel the 27-year-old tested the skinsuits ...
