The mainly dry and spread out cyclocross nationals course in Reno was not your typical grueling cross course like those that span muddy Belgian hillsides. It was next to a sprawling dog park and a playground. It was at altitude but otherwise seemed almost benign. The real test for Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com riders Stephen Hyde and Kaitie Keough came perhaps mostly from within. Having raced alongside 13-time national champion Katie Compton for years, Keough knew that she had to be mentally able to overcome the seemingly unbeatable Compton. Her strong efforts on the day placed her on the third step of the podium with a bronze medal, but she was clearly looking for much more. As defending national champion, Stephen Hyde carried the pressure to repeat, as do all former national champions. He came to the race off of strong finishes in Belgium in December, but then was hit with patellar tendinitis coming into the new year. His heavily taped knee peeking out of his leg warmers did not seem like a good sign. On top of that, Hyde crashed and bloodied the same knee during a practice lap on race day. Having to mentally deal with that gnawing at him at ...

It has become the can’t-miss event for the brakeless, fixed-gear world. Today, the Red Hook Criterium is the king of the fixie events, and Milano just hosted the last crit of the year. Castelli was there too, not only with the official Red Hook jersey but also with two participating teams. Our women’s team partner LA Sweat was in the race, and the men’s team Cykeln showed off a violet and mint green Castelli skinsuit. After Brooklyn, London and Barcelona, Milano is the fourth city on the Red Hook calendar. It was the second race to be established, after the concept was launched in the Red Hook neighborhood of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. Bovisa, the university district north of Milano, hosted the event, where 34 different countries were represented by the participating athletes. More than 10,000 spectators attended the race. It was a very special day of cycling indeed. The athletes are there with you all day long: you can chat with them, you can watch them warming up on the rollers, you can wait for the next lap with a craft beer and a local-style sandwich. And when the race is on, a lap is just ...

It was a brilliant week for the Italian national team at the 2017 UCI Road World Championships. Italy won the most medals in Bergen, with seven – all in the junior categories. Elena Pirrone doubled up for the gold medals in the time trial and road race. In the junior men’s road race, Luca Rastelli and Michele Gazzoli won the minor medals, while Alessia Vigilia won silver in the junior women’s time trial and Letizia Paternoster bronze in the road race. In the elite men’s road race, Italy was one of the dominant teams marking all the moves when the morning breakaway came back, with Alessandro De Marchi going in the break with a few laps to go, Gianni Moscon bridging across when Julian Alaphilippe launched a stinging attack on the final climb of Salmon Hill, and Alberto Bettiol leading out Matteo Trentin, who came close to his first world championships podium finish in a head-to-head sprint with some of the world’s fastest sprinters. Trentin showed form in his preparation for the worlds after bagging five wins in the last month (four stages at La Vuelta a España and the Primus Classic). He was less than satisfied with missing out ...

The one-day race so many pro riders have been preparing for is finally upon us: the 2017 UCI Road World Championships elite men’s road race. The wild coastal landscape of western Norway will mark the start of the men’s race. The wobbly 267.5 km course should make for an unpredictable contest, compounded by the potential for tricky weather, or what some riders would call “Perfetto, Gabba” conditions. The field will have plenty of big names hoping to take the rainbow jersey on Sunday. The Castelli-equipped Italian national road team, with the Italian ‘commissario tecnico’, Davide Cassani, arrived in Bergen on Thursday to check out the course and stretch their legs before the fireworks begin on Sunday. Italy has a strong lineup for Sunday (see full list below). Elia Viviani and Matteo Trentin are two strong contenders for an Italian world championships success. Viviani was second at the European road race, which came down to a reduced bunch sprint, and his Italian teammate Trentin is also on form after bagging five wins in the last month (four stages at La Vuelta a España and the Primus Classic). With the possibility of a late escape also coming into play, Gianni Moscon, Sonny Colbrelli and ...
