castelli, equip, italia, News, Racing, ruben, ruzafa, XTERRA -

The Castelli equipped and two-time XTERRA World Champion Ruben Ruzafa from Spain won his fifth XTERRA European Tour championship race on Saturday with another dominating performance, this time at the XTERRA Italy Championship in Scanno. Back in 2008 a then 29-year-old Ruzafa, hailing from Malaga, Spain, shocked the XTERRA planet when he won the World Championship in his first try. There’s no such surprise anymore.  Last year when he retired from world cup mountain biking (where he collected four national titles in cross country and marathon for Spain) to focus on XTERRA he won XTERRA Spain, was 2nd at France, won Germany, and was third at the USA Championship.  Since then he’s been perfect, winning Worlds in 2013, and Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, France, and Italy this year.  Six straight and 8-of-10 in the last 13 months. On Sunday, he took the victory in two hours and forty-five minutes, more than four minutes ahead of Braden Currie (who just won XTERRA Sweden) and five minutes ahead of four-time XTERRA World Champion and reigning/3x ITU Cross Triathlon World Champion Conrad “the Caveman” Stoltz. Top 5 result – Elite Men Pos. Name Time 1 Ruben Ruzafa, ESP 2:45:23 2 Braden Currie, NZL 2:49:57 3 Conrad Stoltz, ...

bastion, castle series, Fraser, fraser cartmell, iron distance, News, Racing, Triathlon -

Under a warm summer Fraser Cartmell won the inaugural edition of The Bastion iron-distance triathlon, a scenic, challanging and hard race in Kent (UK). The ‘Bastion’ Iron distance on Sunday was the longest day of triathlon to date for Fraser, and he hopes that it remains that way for the forseeable future! Having raced the Half distance ‘Gauntlet’ last Septmber over much of the same course he felt confident he had a good idea of what lay ahead, but 140.6 miles certainly adds a new dimension to racing particular (off road and lumpy) terrain. With his prior knowledge of the course profile from last year, Fraeser was entering into this race with a conservative racing policy. Any energy he could try and save during the swim and bike ride would come in useful deep into the off road multi loop marathon later on in the afternoon. Having raced and enjoyed a number of the Castle Triathlon Series events last year including the Half distance at Hever Castle in September, he was keen to try the new challenge that they had brought to their racing portfolio – The Bastion. Being the first edition of this race, the field size was small but this made for a ‘family ...

buttertubs, le cote du buttertubs, News, Racing, tour de france, yorkshire -

Unless you’ve been hibernating a bit too long or living under a rock you’re sure to know that its that time of year again when all the eyes of cycling turn towards France. This year though the fans eyes will have to drift a little north to England. For 2014 the peloton and the whole circus that follows the 3 weeks of madness is kicking off in the Yorkshire. Yorkshire for many will be famous for a few things, namely good quality strong tea, Yorkshire puddings -them golden yet fatty crusts of pastry that go so well with a roast dinner- and maybe then theirs the white rose. Yorkshire is a pretty spectacular place when the weathers not the typical drizzle of rain, this though helps with keeping the place a lovely lush green. Cycling in the area is tough, narrow and lumpy roads litter the landscape, drystone walls hem you in and sheep run from field to field. A minor hazard to avoid when taking in the great cycling territory. I’m pretty luck as I live just a short ride from where the peloton will be passing on stage one. One climb that will be making its mark on ...

24 hour, criterium, feltre, feltre criterium, News, pedale feltrino, Racing -

For one special weekend in June the racing and cycling community of Italy descend upon the small town of Feltre based in the hills of the Italian Dolomites. The town has seen Giro action many times but this is not what people come for, they arrive in their local team or club kits ready to take on one the best amateur events I’ve been privileged to do. Castelli along with local club Pedale Feltrino organise and run the Castelli 24hr, as the name would suggest its a race that runs for the one solid day, from 10pm on the 5th June till the 10pm the next night. Hordes of teams race against each other around a 3km circuit that surrounds the old part of the historic town. Crowds line the street cheering and encouraging the participants at all hours of the day and night, music blares from speakers surrounding the circuit jeeping the atmosphere pumped up. Teams of between 11 or 12 riders split the work load of this 24 hours between each of them. This may sound easy, after all it works out at about just two hours each of racing, this is not so, usually each rider tackles ...
