Today RCS Sport announced the wildcard recipients for their respective 2015 World Tour events. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung are delighted that for the 3rd year running, they have been included in both the Tirreno Adriatico and Milan Sanremo events. We would like to thank RCS Sport for extending these invitations to our team. We don’t think anybody could forget our debut appearance at the 2013 Milan Sanremo. It was the race in which our African team was announced to the world as Gerald Ciolek triumphed, giving our team its biggest victory to date. Obviously this victory has a special place in our teams history and so we are delighted to be going back to “La classicissima di Primavera” this year where once again, we will contest for the victory. The Tirreno-Adriatico will be our first World Tour stage race of the 2015 season and as guests to the race we hope to put on a great show. We will look to better our stage podium placings we have received in previous years and be visible throughout the race. The Tirreno-Adriatico has treated our team well in preparing our riders for the classics and so we are grateful to have such ...

Austin, cyclocross, National Championships, News, Photo, Racing -

Beginning Wednesday, January 7th, cyclocross racers of all ages lined up to test themselves against the nation’s best over the course of five days. They raced beneath clear skies in late afternoon sun and they fought through the windy cold and eventual rainfall of the final days. They took on muddy runups and limestone stairs with bikes shouldered or pulled, whatever amount of resourcefulness was required. So many faces from around the country flashing by in an array of bright colors. At the end of each day, national champions were crowned and, if there wasn’t beer waiting afterward, there was certainly barbecue. These are a handful of images that we captured during the five days of racing.

A moment after Davide Formolo took his seat, he was back up again. We was distracted by what we saw from the 17th floor of New York hotel in the Meatpacking District. “It’s the Statue of Liberty,” he said. Even though the 22-year-old rider from San Rocco di Marano di Valpolicella, Italy has been to New York before, as recently as this past October, he was excited to be back, to be in the U.S. for the Cannondale-Garmin team launch. “Here you have California dreams, but in Europe you have American dreams,” Formolo said. It’s a pretty eloquent turn of phrase from a man to says he only knows 100 English words. He’s trying to learn English, but he finds it hard to study after a six-hour bike ride. “You’re very tired, and your head can’t remember nothing,” he said of his post-ride attempts at learning a language. Now, he mostly studies on recovery days. While English will help Formolo on this new U.S.-based team, he does have some teammates who have joined him from the old Italian squad, Cannondale, who speak his first language: Alberto Bettiol, Moreno Moser, Alan Marangoni and Davide Villella. There’s also Ted King, who picked up Italian ...

Numbers, figures and reams of data from wind tunnels, computer fluid dynamics and multiple other mechanical testing procedures may be the way many companies like to give the consumer a good idea at how great a product they are making. In many respects all this digital and controlled testing is great, but when it comes to the real deal, it’s out on the open road that shows weather a product really performs. To test a product to its ultimate limit you need harsh and epic conditions. Usually people don’t like going out and suffering through these conditions, especially when it comes to that wet and cold variety of weather. When I found myself in a situation that accidentally and unfortunately allowed me and a friend to give kit we were using the ultimate test it’s not until after the event that you’re able to look back and see how well a product does its job. Taiwan may not be the first place you think of when imagining great cycling destinations, I for one had never seen it as an ideal cycling destination. But an invite for a trip to the island to tackle the Taiwan KOM Challenge was to show me ...

“Not every one of you will become a Grand Tour guy.” Mike Sayers wasted little time before deflating some of the air out of the room filled with testosterone and aspirations emblematic of his audience of bike racers ranging in age from 16 to 23. For many riders present in the room, hearing these words from Sayers — the U23 Program Director at USA Cycling — was a first reality check of many as they began their transition from amateur bicycle racing to the professional peloton. This was their first day on the job at the Hagens Berman U23 Cycling Team. The real work started a few months later under the warm spring sun of Southern California when team principals Todd Herriott and David Richter pulled the team together for training camp. Between the hundreds of miles ridden in the Santa Monica mountains that week to the first race of the season at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, all the way to the the wet and blustery conditions in the season-closing race at the Bucks County Classic in Doylestown, PA the year was filled with its share of highs. There was Adrien Costa’s overall win at the 1/2 race at Tour of the ...
