70.3, fraser cartmell, Germany, half distance, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Kraichgau, Triathlon -

Some of the best triathletes came together last weekend at the newly established Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau (formerly known as Challenge Kraichgau) in the South West of Germany. Castelli athlete Fraser Cartmell placed 6th in a strong field that also doubled as the German Championships and was won by reigning Ironman World Champion Sebastian Kienle ahead of Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten dominator Andi Böcherer. Unusually for so early in the summer the race was held as a non-wetsuit swim due to the exceptionally hot weather in the week previous warming the lake temperature above the 22 °C. This suited Fraser’s swim strength fairly well and he exited the water in the top 5 right behind the leaders. Early in the bike Kienle and Andreas Böcherer pulled away through the rolling countryside and established a huge lead on the remainder of the field into T2. Fraser was part of a chase group of around 7 athletes that followed. With a consistent pace over the 3 lap undulating run course he was happy to be able to secure 6th place which given the strong field quality, was a positive move forward in his preparation towards his target summer race at Ironman UK in ...

Daniel Niederreiter, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Majorca, mallorca, matthias knossalla, Michael Raelert, Pewag, pewagracingteam, Raelert Brothers, Triathlon -

Expectations for the biggest Ironman 70.3 race of the year were high for our participating professionals, but things turned out differently than planned. Michael Raelert had a good swim and after a fast transition, he got in the lead. At the 4k mark he unfortunately hit a shard of glass and ruined his tire. “The tire was slashed. I was extremely frustrated and discussed with myself if I should bring this race to the finish line at all. I was totally down, but I decided to finish.” said Michael Raelert after the race. Michael decided to finish the race, managed the bike course in 2:58:47 hours and ran the half marathon in 1:22:41 hours. Despite all the disappointment the Rostockian enjoyed the support of a great audience in Alcudia. The crowd was a huge help for Michael Raelert to finish this especially mentally tough race. The race went even worse for German Matthias Knossalla. After a solid start of the race, he had an incident with a goat at the downhill from the monastery of Lluc. He was suffering from bruises and lost some skin, finished the bike leg but wasn’t able to start the concluding half marathon. The third member was Austrian Daniel Niederreiter from Pewag racingteam. ...

Aix en Provence, Evi Neuscheler, france, fraser cartmell, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Pays d'Aix, Pewag, pewagracingteam, Thomas Steger, Triathlon -

The European season was really kicked off past weekend with the first Ironman 70.3 race of the year in France. Among other things, the region around Aix en Provence is famous for its excellent training conditions. Competition was tough, because pros and amateurs were already hunting for points and slots for the 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See in August. Experienced Scotsman Fraser Cartmell – who was already training in nearby Girona for a few weeks and returns to the famous training destination right after the race – has already competed in Challenge Dubai and Ironman South Africa earlier this year. Knowing, that the field was top-class, Fraser exited the water in 5th place and rode within the main group on the bike leg for much of the distance but lost contact over the final Col towards the end of the 90k loop. After holding a fairly steady run pace, he finished in 13th position, which he’s not 100 % happy with. Fraser Cartmell raced in his customized Free Sanremo Suit SS, a one piece race suit tailor-made for half and full distance Ironman races. It pairs exceptional wearing comfort with perfect aerodynamics. Pewag racingteam sent young Austrian Thomas ...

Andreas Raelert started into the 2015 season with a third-place-finish at the Ironman 70.3 St. George in Utah, USA. Tim Don from Great Britain won the race in Utah in 3:51:56. Don had been third at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship previous year. Canadian Brent McMahon secured second place in St. George (3:53:22), he crossed the line just seconds ahead of Andreas Raelert. The Rostockian followed in 3:53:39 in third place in a very close finish, he was only 17 seconds behind the strong Canadian Brent McMahon. “Overall, I am satisfied with my first race of the season. It was exactly the tough season opener it had expected. Tim Don and Brent McMahon have shown strong performances throughout the whole race.” said Andreas Raelert after his podium-finish. From the beginning of the swim distance of 1.9 kilometers, a lead group of about a dozen athletes formed in the Sand Hollow Reservoir. Andreas Raelert came out of the water in sixth position after 23:11 minutes, one second ahead of the former Olympic-distance World Champion ...
