Castelli was well represented at yesterday’s Ironman 70.3 European Championship in Wiesbaden (Germany). Andreas Raelert was the most successful athlete by winning the silver medal. He crossed the finish line in 4:05:03 hours just behind his compatriot Boris Stein who won the race in 4:03:08 hours. “I am very glad that I might have had success to get my qualification for the Ironman Hawaii on October 10th done with this race.” During the swim in the Lake Raunheimer Waldsee, Swiss Manuel Küng was the expected leader. He started the race at a high pace and opened up an early gap. At about half way of the 1.9 kilometer swim Manuel Küng’s attack divided the lead group into two parts. After a third of the tough 90 k ride Andreas Raelert took over the lead. “I wanted to bring myself into a good position at an early stage of this race,” he said after the race. Thanks to a great bike performance, Boris Stein soon took over the lead and opened up a significant gap. Andreas Raelert downsized the gap kilometer by kilometer. Through 15 k of the half marathon he was only around 2:30 minutes behind his leading compatriot and finally finished the race ...

Andreas Giglmayr, Andreas Raelert, European Championship, Germany, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Knossalla, Raelert Brothers, Triathlon, Wiesbaden -

This Sunday Wiesbaden will host the Ironman 70.3 European Championship for the 9th time. The race offers a challenging, yet scenic course in southwest Germany. Lake “Raunheimer Waldsee” is the venue for the 1,9 k swim. A challenging 90 k bike loop will lead the athletes into a series of hilly climbs with steep descents. The concluding half marathon, splitted into a four-loop course, takes athletes through downtown Wiesbaden and has a drawn-out descent that lends itself to a spectacular, spectator-filled finish. After winning Müritz Triathlon two weeks ago, Andreas is well prepared to compete in a strong field of almost 70 professional male athletes. After his DNF and a solid block of training Andreas Giglmayr is keen on starting into a successful second half of the season in Wiesbaden. Local hero Matthias Knossalla probably knows the course better than any other actor. He has had a difficult summer when he was only able to swim for six weeks after he crashed out of Ironman 70.3 Mallorca in May. Just in time and as an additional motivation, he got his confirmation for Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See later this month. All Castelli pros will benefit from the performance ...

70.3, fraser cartmell, Germany, half distance, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Kraichgau, Triathlon -

Some of the best triathletes came together last weekend at the newly established Ironman 70.3 Kraichgau (formerly known as Challenge Kraichgau) in the South West of Germany. Castelli athlete Fraser Cartmell placed 6th in a strong field that also doubled as the German Championships and was won by reigning Ironman World Champion Sebastian Kienle ahead of Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten dominator Andi Böcherer. Unusually for so early in the summer the race was held as a non-wetsuit swim due to the exceptionally hot weather in the week previous warming the lake temperature above the 22 °C. This suited Fraser’s swim strength fairly well and he exited the water in the top 5 right behind the leaders. Early in the bike Kienle and Andreas Böcherer pulled away through the rolling countryside and established a huge lead on the remainder of the field into T2. Fraser was part of a chase group of around 7 athletes that followed. With a consistent pace over the 3 lap undulating run course he was happy to be able to secure 6th place which given the strong field quality, was a positive move forward in his preparation towards his target summer race at Ironman UK in ...

Daniel Niederreiter, ironman, Ironman 70.3, Majorca, mallorca, matthias knossalla, Michael Raelert, Pewag, pewagracingteam, Raelert Brothers, Triathlon -

Expectations for the biggest Ironman 70.3 race of the year were high for our participating professionals, but things turned out differently than planned. Michael Raelert had a good swim and after a fast transition, he got in the lead. At the 4k mark he unfortunately hit a shard of glass and ruined his tire. “The tire was slashed. I was extremely frustrated and discussed with myself if I should bring this race to the finish line at all. I was totally down, but I decided to finish.” said Michael Raelert after the race. Michael decided to finish the race, managed the bike course in 2:58:47 hours and ran the half marathon in 1:22:41 hours. Despite all the disappointment the Rostockian enjoyed the support of a great audience in Alcudia. The crowd was a huge help for Michael Raelert to finish this especially mentally tough race. The race went even worse for German Matthias Knossalla. After a solid start of the race, he had an incident with a goat at the downhill from the monastery of Lluc. He was suffering from bruises and lost some skin, finished the bike leg but wasn’t able to start the concluding half marathon. The third member was Austrian Daniel Niederreiter from Pewag racingteam. ...
