With Mirinda Carfrae and Frederik Van Lierde winning the Ironman and Ruben Ruzafa’s triumph at XTerra Maui, Hawaii 2013 had exceeded expectations. In 2014 Castelli’s triathletes already had a phenomenal year with 34 wins and another 26 podiums so far. Five of them qualified for the IRONMAN® World Championship in Kailua-Kona this Saturday. Training is finished, tapering is underway and everyone hopes that on race day all the hard work pays off in a race of their lifetime. The competition is strong as nowhere else and an IRONMAN® isn’t over till it’s over. Last but not least Alex Zanardi will tackle the challenge of the demanding 226k course. Alex will swim with the help of a special Neoprene wetsuit and will do the 180k bike leg and concluding marathon by hand bike. Alex Zanardi and Vittorio Podestà came to the Castelli stand at the Expobici, the biggest bike show of Italy, in Padua. They came to make a small conference in front of the people that came to the stand and to sign some autograph, finishing the postcards they had in few minutes. Zanardi had to talk about Kona, because he will participate to the World IronMan championship. Everybody knows about the curiosity and the tenacity of Alex, he always wants to try new things in sport and this will be his ultimate adventure…for now. When he told to his coach Francesco Chiappero that he wanted to do it, he could not believe it; but when he saw Alex on Gavia and Pordoi, he told him he could do it. Zanardi admits to be very lucky. He always say that he can do what he does because he has the possibility and doing a Ironman is an opportunity that many good athletes dream for all their life, and he can take part to this challange. He says that many other people could make the same results of him or more having the opportunity he has, and he is lucky because he has ...

This is a short, but very intimate portrait of Alex Zanardi, the former Formula 1 driver and winner of the American Champ Car Series. Alex was already a star, when he had his almost fatal accident at the Lausitzring in Germany. He lost his legs, but not his attitude. Alex Zanardi came back and did the impossible. He won races in the World Touring Car Championship, two gold medals at the Paralympics in London 2012 and just recently two hand bike world titles. It was a unique experience to spend a day with him at his house in Padova, talking about his life and joining him for a training session with his hand bike. His last words in the video describe him best. But see for yourself… Thanks to: stereoscreen.de
