Ryder Hesjedal, Defending Champion

ryder
No defending champion has won the Giro d’Italia since Miguel Indurain in 1993, but defending champion Ryder Hesjedal could pull it off. His season so far has been very similar to the one last year, and with a series of showings in stage races and in the Ardennes, Hesjedal will prove that last year wasn’t a one-time thing.

The Canadian knows what it takes to win a Grand Tour, has proven skills of climbing and time trailing, and goes into the 2013 Giro with solid support from a strong and experienced Garmin-Sharp team, with Danielson, Stetina and VandeVelde in the mountains. Team Garmin-Sharp approaches the Giro d’Italia with the goal of defending Hesjedal’s title and doing its best race.

As part of a joint research and development program working with Robby Ketchell, the Garmin-Sharp team’s sport science director, Castelli will during the Giro roll-out new innovations to give the Giro squad an innovative advantage when pushing for the line and glory.
