Photo Essay: Il Lombardia the final Monument
Il Lombardia is the final Monument of the five in the cycling season and it is usually the last major outing for the pro riders before they take their off-season break. The ‘race of the falling leaves’ was a real battle that had been won by the great climbing specialist Thibaut Pinot who set a show with Vincenzo Nibali. But the real surprise was Egan Bernal of Team Sky who took the front of the group on the descent after the brutal Muro di Sormano climb. Dramatic, intense, and incredible. These are the words to describe the men’s road race at the cycling world championships. The foul weather ruled for most of the race making the roads a true inferno.
