Marino Vanhoenacker writes history
By winning Ironman Australia in Port Macquarie Marino Vanhoenacker put his name into the history books today.
The Belgian, representing the Austrian pewag racing team, has thus become the first triathlete in the world to win an Ironman full distance race on every continent. The now 42-year-old athlete is the first and only to secure the Ironman continental Grand Slam.
Vanhoenacker is quite used to records. He still holds the record for Ironman victories overall – as of today – 17.
