Lightweight kit for cold weather riding

Imagine being able to ride in cold weather with clothing that gives you the feeling of your summer-weight kit. Drawing on the legendary product concept of the Sanremo Speedsuit, the Castelli engineers have unveiled a new way to dress warm and light for winter riding.

The Sanremo Thermosuit provides the weight and aerodynamics of a summer kit while granting complete protection from the harsh winter elements. It’s a glimpse into the future for anyone riding year-round.

The revolutionary design was achieved with a precise combination of fabrics and an innovative approach to winter apparel design. The Thermosuit idea started with Castelli redesigning the aerodynamic and all-time favorite race kit of Team Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda, the Sanremo Speedsuit, for a winter application.

The reasons for adapting the Speedsuit are numerous. This design allows full coverage from the elements, complete thermoregulation, no breathing restriction from bib straps and no possibility of cold air entering the suit. The body is completely sealed. Being airtight would result in a rolling furnace rather than a functional design, though, so Castelli engaged in a careful materials selection process. The Sanremo Thermosuit is made from a combination of materials strategically located around the suit.

Developed in conjunction with W.L. Gore, the makers of Windstopper, the front jacket panel is a lightweight, breathable, windproof, water-resistant four-way-stretch fabric. This fabric enables the jacket to fit like jersey but be comfortable in an extremely wide temperature range.

On the back, the fleecy Thermoflex Core Due fabric will keep you warm while providing heat regulation. In addition, the Sanremo Thermosuit comes with three rear storage pockets that are designed to stay in place under load, with no bouncing, and a full-length YKK camlock hidden zipper for quick ventilation.

The tights of the Thermosuit are made using a combination of the Thermoflex Core Due and Thermoflex fabrics. The Core Due fabric features hollow-core polyester fibers that trap warm air while wicking moisture to the outer layer of the fabric. By applying the technical advancement of hollow-core fibers, we’ve made the tights not only lighter than your normal tights but also warmer—and they keep you drier.

Castelli’s most innovative seat pad, the Progetto X2 Air, uses a skin-care layer comprised of a seamless bacteriostatic fabric that conforms to the shape of the body. The material supports airflow and aids in evaporation. The second layer is multi-density foam with variable thicknesses placed for maximum, anatomically correct support. The comfort level is also increased by the viscous comfort inserts; perforated padding is added to the highly sensitive ischial and perineal pressure regions.

Now you’re ready to put in those long base rides all winter, with lightweight, aerodynamic clothing that feels as good as your summer kit.
