Hesjedal and Garmin-Sharp Head Into Time-Trial

Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Sharp) won the 2012 Giro d’Italia by 16 seconds wearing the fastest TT suit to date, the Castelli BodyPaint Speed Suit. The SpeedSuit has been going through a lot of new updates for the Giro, especially in terms of the fit and new ’slippery’ aero fabrics.

Earlier this year, Ryder spend a few days wind-tunnel testing new fabrics with Castelli and Robby Ketchell, the Garmin-Sharp’s team’s sport science director. The 2012 BodyPaint SpeedSuit has thus far only been available for Team Garmin-Sharp. With Ketchell’s help, it was actually possible to make the fastest Speed Suit in the pro peloton even faster for 2013.

One week into the race, Saturday’s 54.8-kilometer individual time trial will not only fit Hesjedal, but also one of Garmin-Sharp’s true TT specialist, David Millar. Only a few riders in the world can turn big gears consistently over such long distance.

Not only the TT Speed Suits were in test, the road race combo’s, like the Climbers Jersey and Inferno Bibshorts, showed big aero advantages. The incredibly light weight and superlative cooling in hot weather Climbers jersey compared to the Aero Race Jersey turned out to be only 3 watts slower at 40 km/h.
