Three weeks of racing at the Tour de France in pictures

Every race comes to an end. This year’s Grand Boucle was peppered with emotions, victories, teamwork, disappointments, fatigue and happiness. We’ve seen an amazing everyday fight of both of ‘our’ teams MTN-Qhubeka and Cannondale-Garmin with the most remarkable highlights wearing the polka-dot jersey by Daniel Teklehaimanot and a last-minute ingenious move of Steve Cummings at stage 14. A first experience report on the Castelli Gear Backpack

Usually it’s my girlfriend who gets excited by bags, normally the handbag variety. This time around it was my time to get excited about a bag. Finally after daydreaming and wondering as to when and if Castelli would release a range of luggage, they sprung it on us fans. A strong line up of roller bags for flying, wet bags for storing cycling kit and saddle packs. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the Castelli backpacks. And a stunning black and red thing it is too. I was given the bag a few weeks back at the start of the Giro. Since then I’ve had plenty of time to fill it with everything from groceries to the cycling kit that I’m sure it was intended to carry, it had a short but intensive testing from me, being my go to back on every occasion I’ve needed to carry stuff. What I’ve found is that the design team at Castelli have produce a product that hits what a backpack should offer and work like. Massimo Debertolis, 2004 XC Marathon World Champion does a recon of the Maratona Dles Dolomites 2015 for us, from the start to the finish line, commenting his race. You will see how a pro heads out the race. Massimo is also a great friend of Castelli family: he started with us, but he is more fast than us and outdistanced us since the start line!

Teklehaimanot makes history as first African in the KOM jersey

The 6th stage of the Tour de France would be a historical day for African cycling as Daniel Teklehaimanot became the first African rider to pull on the Polka Dot best climbers jersey and only the 3rd African ever, to wear a leader’s jersey at the Tour de France. Daniel set off in pursuit of history when he got into the 3 rider break of the day that got clear after just 5km of racing. There would be 3 category 4 climbs on route today, with 1 point available to the first rider over the top of each climb. Perrig Quemeneur (Europcar) and Kenneth Vanbilsen (Cofidis) were the 2 riders to join Daniel in the break and it would turn out to be Quemeneur that would challenge Daniel for the mountain points throughout the stage. In each of the mountain sprints Daniel would show great awareness and strength to be able to get the better of the Frenchman, ensuring he would be the first African rider ever to pull on the King of the Mountains Polka Dot jersey at the Tour de France.
