Defending Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae had planned to somehow produce something even better than last year’s masterpiece. Mirinda Carfrae’s third Ironman World Championship victory on Saturday in Kona, Hawaii, didn’t look like a possibility at the T2 (transition from bike to run), Carfrae exited with more than 14 minutes behind then race leader Daniela Ryf. Carfrae broke her own run course record, set last year, when she moved past Ryf in the marathon and giving her the third Ironman world title of her career. Two years after launching its line of innovative triathlon apparel, Castelli was again worn to victory at the pinnacle event of the sport. On Sunday, the 98th edition of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) will take place in western Belgium. Team Garmin-Sharp spent this week preparing for the race, including 160km recon ride of the race course for Sunday. Coming from Ninove in Flanders, we had a seat in the team car with sport director Andreas Klier and Geert Van Bondt while Jered Gruber took take of the stunning images following the riders on scooter.Tour of Flanders fact #1: 2014 marks the 98th edition of the race.Tour of Flanders fact #2: the race has been won by a Belgian 68 times.
