Although he won a stage last year and looked set for a top 10 overall until he became sick, Dan Martin has confirmed that he has decided to miss this year’s Tour de France. The Irish Garmin-Sharp rider crashed out on stage one of the Giro d’Italia on May 9th and while his fractured collarbone has healed, he is yet to resume racing. As a result he believes it is better to focus more on the Vuelta a España and  the World Championships. “For me, I prefer to be 100 percent ready for the next Grand Tour . I wasn’t ready in time to do the Tour de Suisse, so I wouldn’t have had a big race before the Tour.” “I think I am quite fit now but I am not anywhere near good enough to be contesting stages or whatever at the Tour. It is better just to refocus and rather than rush into something, really give myself time to prepare properly for the Vuelta.” Martin said yesterday. Great achievement for Castelli equipped German Evi Neuscheler at IRONMAN 70.3 Aarhus last Sunday. She was only beaten by Dane Camilla Pedersen who already won three half-distance races earlier this year. Just over a year after my accident at IRONMAN 70.3 in Berlin and a difficult preparation full of injuries, I came to Denmark highly motivated and very excited. Today, it just had to work! Swimming in the cold Baltic Sea fighting against jellyfish was as hard as expected. I wasn’t able to follow the pace of the front group and reached T1 at 11th position. My jump on the bike must have been pure entertainment for the audience. Everything went wrong. Anyway, I stayed focused and laughed at myself. I quickly found my rhythm and caught a few competitors quite early in the race. It really went like clockwork on a beautiful, winding course through the hills around Aarhus. The final stage of the Tour de Suisse saw a shake up in the General Classification as Tony Martin (Omega Pharma Quickstep) finally lost his grip on the yellow leaders jersey. World Road Race Champion, Rui Costa (Lampre Merida), would walk away as overall victor of the Tour de Suisse for the 3rd year in succession. First of all I would like to thank CDC-Sport for inviting me to this trip and enabling me to participate in that spectacular event. The “24 ore Felte” or “Castelli 24H race” is some kind of criterium and is raced by almost 100 teams (each consisting of 12 riders) around the old town of Feltre (Italy) at the bottom of the Dolomites and only a stone’s throw away from Castelli’s headquarters. My adventure started on Thursday June 5, one day before race day. Our tour group (among others ex-professional Cata Martinez on behalf of “Ciclos Cabello” (Córdoba), Esteban from CDC-Sport in Andalusia, Juan and Miguel of “TriaWorld) departed from Malaga airport. We handed off our bikes and took our flight to Milan (2h45min). At Milan, we loaded our rental car and waded into our three hour drive to hotel “Casagrande” in Feltre. We quickly unpacked our bikes before we left for dinner and stretched our legs by walking through the old town of Feltre – a pleasant way to finish our day of traveling. Friday – race day: After breakfast we decided to make use of the spectacular cycling opportunities in the Feltre area and went for a two hour spin. Via road SP-473 ...
