PERFETTO LIGHT SHORT SLEEVE JERSEY: PRO-REQUESTED PERFECTION There’s no denying that the Gabba short-sleeve jersey has been a game changer in pro cycling. Most of the peloton pulls it out whenever the weather is cold or wet. But sometimes the Gabba is too much. The Gabba’s allover protection can make it feel too warm for racing in merely cool conditions, so some of the Cannondale Pro Cycling Team riders asked for protection like the Gabba but with more breathability for milder temperatures. Enter the versatile Perfetto Light. It’s a lightweight, more breathable option with the same weather-resistant qualities and aerodynamic fit that helped the Gabba conquer the cycling world. It has the same cut as the Gabba and combines a lightweight windproof and water-resistant Windstopper® 150 material on the front, shoulders and sleeves (25% lighter than the fabric used on the Gabba) with a water-resistant Nano Light Pro on the back (an unbrushed version of the Nano Flex fabric, which is highly water repellent and stretchy but has no membrane to inhibit air exchange). The fabric is very tightly knit so you don’t feel the wind coming through, but it is open enough to prevent the moisture buildup that you can experience with ...

Based on the characteristics of the stage and the weather conditions, every rider makes his own clothing choices. It’s important to show up at the start with the “perfect” clothing, but it’s also important to select the right pieces to have in the team car during the race or in the team bus before the race when there will be a warm-up session on the rollers. We took a moment to chat with Andrea Peron, Castelli Race Performance Director, about what clothing the riders of team Cannondale-Drapac selected during the most significant stages of the 2016 Giro d’Italia.   STAGE 1 Individual TT. (Apeldoorn) Since this is a time trial, I’ll use the TT Suit 3.1. The highest-performance and most aerodynamic product currently available, it is the result of hours and hours of research, aerodynamic studies and wind tunnel tests. The different fabrics used, along with the cut and the seam placement on specific points on the body, ensure maximum aerodynamic efficiency and energy savings. Along with the TT Suit 3.1, I’ll wear the Aero Speed Glove, our super-specific glove for time trialing. Because the warm-up is done on the rollers, and therefore the body will generate a lot of heat and ...

Story by Chris Hovenden | cyclingweekly.co.uk Custom kit goes much further than just teams and clubs nowadays. When it comes to making cycling kit, the Italian company has an impressive pedigree. Castelli started manufacturing clothing in 1876, in the 1940s it created custom jerseys for Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi, and it claims to have been the first to use the current sublimation printing process back in 1983. If you choose Castelli’s Pro Issue range you’ll get the same kit as supplied to the WorldTour Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling Team. However, if you are looking for a more forgiving fit there’s the Team issue range that is aimed at club riders. The on test Pro Issue custom kit looks top drawer and feels high quality to the touch. Costing £74.99 (plus VAT and based on an order of 10) the Free Aero Race Bibshorts aren’t cheap, but even at that hefty price they are hard to fault. The chamois gives you no reason to complain whether sat up on the back of the saddle or riding on the rivet in a more forward, aggressive position. The side panels are dimpled for improved aerodynamics; and the netted gripper does a great job ...
