Professional and amateur riders have been reaping the aero benefits of the Sanremo Speedsuit for more than six years, and they call it the best kit ever made for road racing. Your body is responsible for about 75 percent of the air drag you face when cycling, so it makes sense to ensure that you’re as aero as possible. The Sanremo Speedsuit was inspired by the Sanremo finish line back in 2009. Heinrich Haussler had just been beaten by 3cm by Mark Cavendish on the finish line in Sanremo. So we started looking for ways to make up 3cm over 300km. Along the way we invented the first true Aero suit for road racing. We’ve refined it year after year and finally in 2017 Michal Kwiatkowski of Team Sky brings it to victory at its namesake race.   A little bit of aerodynamic savings over a long period of time can result in that extra last crucial bit of energy when pushing for the line and glory. The Sanremo Speedsuit debuted at the 2011 Sanremo, but the race didn’t go well for Team Garmin-Cervélo. The first professional win in the speed suit came three weeks later, when Johan Vansummeren rode ...

Covered sleeves became indispensable for best possible aerodynamics on the bike. A few years ago professional athletes with short or even long sleeved race suits were smiled at. Castelli was one of the first triathlon clothing brand which introduced a short sleeved race suit with full zip, available for everyone in spring 2014 preceded by hours of testing in the wind tunnel and multiple prototype sessions to guarantee the best possible fit and performance. The all new 2016 Free Sanremo Suit SS is even more comfortable and can be worn for the entire race which means it allows enough freedom of movement also for swimming and running. It has been proven that covered sleeves are faster than skin. It took a little while to convince athletes but in the year 2015 this trend couldn’t be overlooked. At Kona 2015 the top 10 men (16 of the top 20) were racing in short sleeved tops (women: six of the top 10). PRO TIP – PREPARE YOUR SLEEVES Frederik Van Lierde – 2013 Ironman World Champion In case of a non-wetsuit swim, wearing shortsleeved race tops/suits during swimming is prohibited. If you don’t want to go the aero benefits and comfort of your Sanremo, try this (optional: underneath your swimskin): 1. Unzip your Sanremo SS and roll it down to the waist. ...

Castelli got rave reviews when the 2013 edition of Milan–San Remo got hammered by snow and sub-zero temperatures, and half the pro-peloton was equipped with the black stealth looking, fully aero, fully breathable and fully protected Gabba WS Jersey. When the WorldTour peloton tackles the first Monument of the year on Sunday, as Milan–San Remo returns for its 105th edition, there is a good chance of rain, #GabbaWeather, but luckily no snow is expected this year for the riders who will cover the 294 kilometers to the seaside.     The Gabba WS Jersey has become the pro’s favorite piece for wet, cool, and dry conditions. Core protection without overheating is great even when the sun is shining. And the unmatched breathability keeps you drier than your old jacket that just became obsolete. Sharp eyes will notice how many pro riders from other teams use the original Gabba with the logos blacked out or mostly unbadged, and the trend of riders from non-sponsored teams wearing its Gabba jerseys when conditions take a turn for the worse. Some other brands have tried to copy it, but pros know they’re at a disadvantage if they don’t have a real Gabba. Castelli-equipped Gerald ...

Last year’s edition of the Milan-Sanremo is one that would never be forgotten, from the rain, cold and snow to the mid race transfer and finally to the eventual outcome where Gerald Ciolek put African cycling on the map by taking a most magnificent victory. Come Sunday, Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will return to the scene of its most famed victory to date and take part in the Milano-Sanremo as the defending champions. Team Principal, Douglas Ryder, is excited to be back at the first Monument of the year, reflecting on the good memories of last year and the significant role it has played in the teams’ development over the past year. “Last year the first victory was just to be invited to Milano-Sanremo and to be able to stand on the start line with the great riders and teams in cycling, to win the race was the immediate realisation of a dream. We had so many highs and lows with crashes, the bad weather, freezing riders totally unaccustomed to the conditions. It will be a race we will never forget.” “Our credibility in cycling and opportunities that came from that iconic victory has helped shape the team to focus ...
