As a previous host of the 2013 Cyclocross World Championships, Louisville, Kentucky was familiar with dramatic events. Heavy snowmelt and a river rising onto the race course being one of them. This year, the weather delivered in a more predictable way. Rain came down and riders churned the wet hillsides into muddy trenches, the way it’s supposed to happen. At least in the world of cyclocross. But the event also delivered some of the most incredible race stories and rider performances that could be hoped for. Castelli teams and athletes, from juniors to the elites, all raced with grit, carrying mud-thickened bikes like crosses, and often finished with smiles and looks of disbelief. Here’s a look back on the mud and gray skies, on emotional performances, and on seemingly unthinkable victories.

Team Sky and Castelli today unveiled the new kit for the 2019 season and revealed a return to black for the team’s tenth year in the peloton. The kit incorporates a blue to black gradient, with the blue being inspired by the team’s commitment to Sky Ocean Rescue (SOR). The SOR logo is also prominent on the collar of the jersey, as the team continues to raise awareness of Sky’s campaign to help inspire simple, everyday changes to stop our oceans from drowning in plastic. The jersey retains the iconic line on the back, a defining feature that has been ever-present since the team’s inception, while rider names have moved back to the side of the jersey, echoing the team’s previous designs. Team Sky Principal Sir Dave Brailsford said: “We’ve enjoyed another fantastic year of collaboration with Castelli and are delighted with our new look for 2019.” “Castelli share our attitude and outlook in their approach to research and development and we have been continually impressed by their pioneering work from the moment our relationship started. They have played a major role in our success over the past two seasons and are a big part of Team Sky.” “This year’s ...

The Spirit of the Six Day – written and photographed by CHPT3 Ambassador, @garethwinter It’s been 40 years since the iconic Molteni jersey raced professionally, ridden to fame on the back of the greatest cyclist of all time – Eddy Merckx (AKA The Cannibal, as he ‘ate’ his competition). Why is Merckx the G.O.A.T? His versatility… no other rider in history can boast Eddy’s palmarès. Merckx won all three Grand Tours, all five Monuments, World Championships, track events, held the Hour Record, and he dominated 6 Day events with his partner Patrick Sercu. The iconic burnt orange jersey sponsored by Molteni – an Italian Salami factory – was resurrected for the London 6 Day at Lee Valley Velodrome. The Velodrome is built on top of the old Eastway Cycle Circuit, which Merckx himself raced on during the Glenryck Cup – 11th June 1977. Fellow CHPT3 Ambassador Adam Blythe (AKA The Captain) and 6-day partner, Jon Dibben of Team Sky, had the honour – and responsibility – of racing in the Molteni colours, bringing Ghent to London. However there was no pressure to perform like the Cannibal, and Sercu, this was about honoring and celebrating history, not repeating it. Adam channeling ...
