Dressed in Castelli colors, Italy’s Giorgia Bronzini claimed her second women’s elite World Championship road title in a row. The Italian beat Marianne Vos (Netherlands) and Ina-Yoko Teutenberg (Germany) to the line.

“This second World Championship win is certainly the one that feels the best. Last year’s win was such a big surprise: I had started with no pressure and was working for the others early in the race. Bronzini said to Castelli.

This year’s World Championship has been described as a sprinter’s course, but the Italian ‘Commissario Tecnico’, team manager of the Italian national squad, Paolo Bettini has warned that any eventual winner on September 25th will have to be far more than just a fast finisher. Earlier this year, Paolo Bettini made a trip to the Danish capital to get the first impression of the race course.

Speaking yesterday, Bettini said, “The World Championships circuit is not really complicated – only the final is complicated. But if it is raining or windy, it will be a really hard race.”

UNITED KINGDOM: Lizzie Armitstead won the women’s British RR National Championships outsprinting Nicole Cooke, with Sharon Laws and Emma Pooley (Garmin-Cervelo) in third and fourth place, while Lucy Martin (Garmin-Cervelo) took 6th, 2nd in U23.
