Louis Meintjes I am super happy to have been selected to race La Vuelta, I still can’t really believe it. I think after La Vuelta I will only realise what it actually means. My main goal will firstly be to just reach the finish and after that I will definitely look to target 1 or 2 stages for a result. Of course I ...

The Castelli equipped and two-time XTERRA World Champion Ruben Ruzafa from Spain won his fifth XTERRA European Tour championship race on Saturday with another dominating performance, this time at the XTERRA Italy Championship in Scanno. Back in 2008 a then 29-year-old Ruzafa, hailing from Malaga, Spain, shocked the XTERRA planet when he won the World Championship in his first try. There’s no such surprise anymore.  Last year when he retired from world cup mountain biking (where he collected four national titles in cross country and marathon for Spain) to focus on XTERRA he won XTERRA Spain, was 2nd at France, won Germany, and was third at the USA Championship.  Since then he’s been perfect, winning Worlds in 2013, and Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, France, and Italy this year.  Six straight and 8-of-10 in the last 13 months. On Sunday, he took the victory in two hours and forty-five minutes, more than four minutes ahead of Braden Currie (who just won XTERRA Sweden) and five minutes ahead of four-time XTERRA World Champion and reigning/3x ITU Cross Triathlon World Champion Conrad “the Caveman” Stoltz. Top 5 result – Elite Men Pos. Name Time 1 Ruben Ruzafa, ESP 2:45:23 2 Braden Currie, NZL 2:49:57 3 Conrad Stoltz, ...

Andreas Raelert, castelli, European Championship, frankfurt, Free ITU Suit, Germany, hawaii, ironman, Knoa, News, Triathlon, Van Lierde -

Every year Ironman Germany in Frankfurt is well known for its world class field of starters. That’s not at all surprising, as it’s the race for the European crown in triathlon. Castelli also had two hot irons in the fire, namely Ironman World Champion Frederik Van Lierde and Andreas Raelert. The performance of Raelert (who won in Frankfurt 2010) was eagerly awaited, as he only decided on his start a few days before the race. Unfortunately the German had to abandon during the run while fighting for a spot on the podium. When speaking of the podium, it’s been a battle between Frederik Van Lierde, Jan Frodeno and Sebastian Kienle, where the 2-time 70.3 World Champion had the better outcome at the finish. Castelli athlete Van Lierde finished second and ungrudgingly admitted, that Kienle was a class on his own in winning with new course record on his 30th birthday. Nevertheless the Belgian proved, that he is on the right track to defend his Kona title later this year at a reunion with Frodeno and Kienle among others. Top-3 men: 1. Sebastian Kienle (GER) 7:55:14 2. Frederik Van Lierde (BEL) 8:00:25 3. Jan Frodeno (GER) 8:07:05 Some more race impressions ...

Leeds, UK. It’s the Wednesday before the Tour de France and it’s the first time we catch up with Andrew since his epic win at the Dauphiné. While it would have been cool to have actually been at the Dauphiné finish, that would have meant missing the most riveting day of racing and seeing every move on TV. When Andrew rolled into the hotel lobby, you could see the change in the man. He had a lighter step. And a big smile. He exuded confidence, but not a cocky confidence. Just calm confidence. We met Andrew at the team training camp in his first year at Garmin-Cervélo in 2011. He was gracious enough to sit down for a couple of long chats touching on everything from his goals, his thoughts on joining Garmin, the new generation of clean cyclists, and the difference that clothing can make at this level. Andrew immediately impressed as a bright, articulate neo pro but certainly didn’t lack in ambition or confidence. Some journalists called him cocky which didn’t quite sit with what we saw. I’d say it was more of an inward focus on getting the best out of himself. He started 2011 with a ...
