Unbound racer struck and killed by driver on eve of race
A gravel racer in Emporia, Kansas for Unbound Gravel was struck and killed by a driver on Friday evening.
According to a report by the Kansas state highway patrol, Gregory Bachman, 61, was killed by the driver of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 3.
The incident occurred at an intersection outside Emporia. Bachman was travelling northbound on county road F and the driver, Cory Smith, 52, of Emporia, was travelling westbound on country road 190. Bachman was struck in the intersection and Smith stopped at the scene.
Race organizers confirmed that Bachman was in Emporia to race Unbound Gravel.
