Off-season jogs: Adam Yates and Freddy Ovett run sub-3 hour marathons

Over the weekend Adam Yates pivoted his pre-2022 training in a whole different direction. The Ineos Grenadiers rider took to the streets of Barcelona on Sunday to run the Barcelona marathon, and he did so in under three hours.

Yates finished the 26.2 mi (42.195 km) race in 2:58:43 and averaged just under seven minutes per mile, or 4:14 per kilometre.

Coincidently L39ion of LA rider Freddy Ovett ran the LA marathon on the same day. The Australian ran his marathon eight minutes faster than Yates, albeit on a different course with different conditions.

After the event, Yates joked that he will stick to riding a bike in the future. “Couple of weeks on the beach no the most ideal prep but I’m happy,” Yates said on his social media.

The real question is, how much faster could Tom Pidcock have gone?
