INEOS partners up with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport

Team Ineos will partner with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport and Team UK sailing in a technical cross-pollination effort aimed at driving performance levels higher for all three organizations, the three organizations announced Wednesday.

Partnerships between cycling teams and automotive manufacturers are nothing new. The Ineos announcement comes on the heels of Bahrain-Merida’s announcement that it will race as Bahrain-McLaren next season. There is, as of yet, no indication of a Ferrari-Androni Giocattoli partnership.

“The technological demands of Formula 1 mean we are well-placed to support with advanced technical challenges in specific areas of sailing and cycling, with a particular focus on aerodynamics and the manufacturing capability around key components,” said Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport.

Mercedes-AMG Petronas won its sixth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship this season. Ineos won its seventh Tour de France in July.

The three organizations will work together via the Mercedes-Benz Applied Science (MBAS) group. The goal, according to a press release, is to collaborate to develop and implement innovations in areas such as engineering, human science, simulation, and data analysis. A technical steering committee will be charged with identifying areas for performance gains. Once those opportunities are identified, engineering and specialist resources from the Applied Science group will be applied to the cycling and sailing teams.
