Authorities release individuals held in Arkéa-Samsic probe
L’Equipe reports that the doctor and physiotherapist that were being held in custody in connection with an investigation targeting Nairo Quintana have both been released.
Police had been holding two people into custody amid a probe looking into possible doping activities within what was describe as “a small part” of the Arkéa-Samsic team. Prosecutors also questioned Nairo and Dayer Quintana, whose hotel rooms had been among those searched last week after the 17th stage of the Tour de France.
The Colombian duo responded to questions voluntarily and they were then allowed to leave, and as of Wednesday, the two individuals that had been in custody are no longer being held.
According to Marseille prosecutor Dominique Laurens, the investigation is “still in progress.”
Quintana made his first public comments regarding the subject on Tuesday, saying that he has never used illegal substances to boost his performance. On Wednesday, Arkéa-Samsic put out its second statement on the case after confirming that its riders had answered questions and then been allowed to return home.
“The Arkéa Samsic team and its general manager are satisfied with this reassuring new information and renew their commitment to the values of integrity and sports ethics,” the French ProTeam said. “Not having access to the documents in the file included in the procedure and the investigations carried out, Emmanuel Hubert and his team, however, remain attentive and vigilant as to what happens next.”
