Amy Pieters hospitalized after ‘collision’
Amy Pieters hospitalized after crash
Amy Pieters has been taken to the hospital after being seriously injured in what a statement from the Dutch cycling federation described as a “collision” at a training camp for the Dutch national track team near Calpe, Spain.
According to the statement, the 30-year-old Dutchwoman lost consciousness and was airlifted to the hospital. She then underwent surgery on her head.
“We are currently unable to make any further announcements about the accident and ask everyone to respect the privacy of those involved,” the Dutch cycling federation said on Thursday.
“Of course, our thoughts are with Amy and her loved ones at the moment.”
On Friday, the Dutch cycling federation released an update on Pieters’s status.
“During Thursday night’s surgery at the hospital in Alicante, the doctors relieved the pressure in her head that had been caused by the fall,” read a statement. “Amy Pieters will be kept asleep for the next few days. Only if the doctors let her wake up in a few days, an estimate can be made of the possible damage.”
