Alexis Vuillermoz leaves in an ambulance after collapsing at stage 9 finish
TotalEnergies rider Alexis Vuillermoz was taken from the finish of stage 9 in an ambulance after collapsing from ‘fatigue’.

“Victim of heat stroke during the stage, Alexis was taken care of by the team and race medical staff at the finish,” Team TotalEnergies said. “As a precaution, he was then transported to the hospital in Thonon-les-Bains for additional examinations.
“The first news is rather reassuring and we will not fail to keep you informed as soon as we have additional information.”
TV2’s Dennis Ritter witnessed the Frenchman’s departure from Châtel, where Vuillermoz had finished almost 36 minutes after the stage winner. The 36-year-old was seen collapsing to the ground, but stayed conscious the whole time, eating a handful of wine gums among other things before being helped to the ambulance by medical personnel.
“Alexis Vuillermoz finishes ninth stage in ambulance after collapse at the finish line,” Ritter said in a tweet. “Not critical, for the rescuers take it easy. But it says a little about the hardness of this game. Best wishes, Vuillermoz.”
Little over an hour later, Vuillermoz himself provided an update, confirming that it wasn’t too serious.
Hello!

“Hello! Small update: no discomfort on arrival, I collapsed from fatigue. ‘Journée sans’ today and I vomited on the bike.”
He goes on to report a negative COVID-19 test, carried out in the ambulance while descending the mountain, as provided by the ASO.
