For 2015 Castelli has made some significant new improvements in crucial race equipment. If you were fast, you might have noticed some of the new aero details of the Free Aero Race Bib Short that team Cannondale-Garmin and MTN-Qhubeka riders are using this season. We’ve completely re-engineered every detail—starting with CFD modeling of the rider and surface textures, followed by iterative rounds of samples, then days of wind tunnel and road testing, followed by testing in the Tour de France and La Vuelta a España. BodyPaint Triathlon Shorts – Comfortable and Aero

Feeling comfortable while training or racing is absolutely essential for every athlete. And hey: Who would refuse being aero on top of that? Who ever have had smarting abrasions caused by a wet suit (because one forgot body glide/petroleum jelly or a rubbing zipper/collar) or irritating seams, would die for a worry-free race kit. Body Paint is Castelli’s technology of advanced engineered fabrics to eliminate seams and build components directly into the fabric. The Body Paint men’s and women’s triathlon shorts are each made out of a single piece of fabric yet offer perfect anatomic fit. The leg gripper is knit into the fabric and we don’t need to make extra panels for a contoured fit. The waist band is an engineered flat fabric with a raw edge that lays completely flat. A envelope pocket on the back holds a gel for the run. The near total lack of seams makes for a very aerodynamic product that consistently gives the lowest drag results in our wind tunnel testing. Why do cyclists use bib shorts and triathletes never do? It’s a question we asked and frankly we couldn’t come up with a good answer.

The BodyPaint 2.0 bibshorts are partially the result of feedback from our professional cycling teams, and up close there’s no denying this is a high-end performance piece. They’re a warm weather garment with a very low cut front and a nice airy mesh in back between the straps. The shorts on the Body Paint Bibshorts are formed from a single piece of seamless fabric for a naturally supportive fit. The short feels like it is hugging you perfectly in any position, thanks to this anatomic fit and the as well as a highly compressive fabric. The main body of the shorts is cut from a single piece of Lycra. This smooth fit, combined with the aero dimples employed in the material, make this is the most aerodynamic bib short on the market. We have engineered the dimples into the fabric to induce flow separation and reduce aerodynamic drag. Think of it as the clothing equivalent for the Zipp rim dimples.
