The Lab: Mavic Athena Winter Jersey Long Term Review
Cat has been putting the miles in wearing the Athena Thermo Long Sleeve Jersey. After a tough Scottish winter and spring, she has been impressed with the jersey, which feels like a quality product from top to bottom.
Although primarily designed with the road biker in mind, its thermal protection translates to mountain biking perfectly. The tight fit of the jersey might not be to all mountain bikers’ liking, but some will certainly appreciate the clean lines and close fit. Cat often chooses this jersey for racing as it offers enough warmth without feeling bulky, and has worn it on many endurance race podiums.
Cat found that the jersey was a little short in the body, sometimes allowing for a bit of a gap to appear at the back. The inclusion of the road biker pockets on the back for kit and valuables make short training rides without a pack possible. This has quickly become Cat’s “go to jersey” over the winter months and she suspects it will become a spring/summer “in the backpack” staple for when the sun isn’t shining. It’s stood up well to the wash-wear cycle of winter mountain biking with the stitching, shape, and warmth remaining unaffected.
