The Lab: Ergon GE1 Grips Long-term Review

The GE1 are Ergon’s attempt to design enduro-specific grips. These not only feature a more ergonomic design, but the flattening of the grip ends (and sacrificing of end clamps) works to broaden the surface area available without having to widen the bars. Could this be a decisive advantage in narrow sections of trail?

Ergon GE1 Grips

The rubber compound’s profile has been designed to eliminate hand rotation, which equals masses of grip. Despite the soft silicon, the Ergon GE1 grips appear to have an incredibly long lifespan, and even after 3,000 km their ergonomic form remains identical. However, without the regular aluminium clamps on the ends, the grips are open to assault of terra firma if you crash. One grip lost at least a centimeter in war wounds, but this hasn’t affected how the Ergon GE1 grips perform on the trails.
